Okay...It's time...
I'm sorry but I've got a gallon jug of the haterade goin.
When my kid turns 16, they are not getting an entry level luxury sedan nor a midsize sport coupe. With leather/navigation/whistles to add to it!
Sub-20k compact car is what they're getting, and that's IF they've proven to me they can handle new (coupe, sedan, sporty, they'll get the choice). If not, cheap and used and high safety ratings for when they crash it like all the other 16-18 year old statistics.
Lumryan, consider yourself very lucky and fortunate, and don't raise a stink too much.

And to add to that - I also had a sporty car (originally a 2 dr sport econobox) when I was in HS. I added a TON of accessories myself to make it one of the best cars in school.
Clue word: myself (with my own summer job money).

Tell me about it...
I think I deserve the car though.
I've worked hard for it.
&& I won't get a P.O.S. Because I'm pretty sure my parents are gonna be driving it..
If not that, I'd be in a 2002 Honda Accord EX. Which is the oldest car we got.
I had an accord coupe parked by me at work this afternoon. I love my car, but if i was your age, i would definately go for the accord, its so sporty and sleek looking. tsx looks too much like a family car, like you borrowed your mom's car!
My car will be the best!

lol.
I have a friend with a 08 benzie c300.
and another friend with a 3-series.
I dont like the interior of the 3-Series.
And Side-by-Side...The TSX Shits on them both. Especially the 3 series.
Look
.
.
.

I know I'm lucky to get such a nice car.
BUT SHIT LIKE THAT DOESNT GO TO MY HEAD!
I know most people dont have the oppurtunity, but believe me, I appreciate everything my family has ever done for me!.
I'm gonna put AcuRyan on the license plate of the car

...
I sure hope people dont think My Mom's name is Ryan.
"The TSX is a girls car" - Says the male JETTA driver.
Are you going to Leith Acura in Fayetteville? That is an OK dealership but I have had better luck w/ Performance Acura in Chapel Hill (I can hook you up w/ the last salesman I dealt w/ ... he was really friendly). The one in Cary was not very friendly to me the last time I was there nor to someone else I knew who went shopping there recently ... there are not a ton of Acura dealerships in the area but enough that you can hopefully shop around & get the best deal possible. Keep in mind that there is currently a $750 cash to dealer incentive that should help get you a low price.
Also, even though coupes seem more for a younger person, I think that you are making the right decision bc the Accord has gotten huge & larger cars seem more for older people to me ... the TSX has a younger spirited look.
Now, if you really wanna make the other kids @ school drool and have $30k to spend, this 1992 NSX is available in Raleigh. It will definitely be a chick (or dude ... whatever floats your boat) magnet. It is like the best of both worlds: v6 coupe w/ luxury amenities. It has 64,500 miles & he is asking $29,500.
Good luck!

I've been talking to Mike Mitchell at Leith Acura.
I dont like the staff in fayetteville.
My aunt bought an 05 TL at performance Acura.
If you could put in a good word for me, that would be great!

I know right.
How do people take it at school?
Some people are gonna hate me, i knoww..
My friend has a c300 and some guy walked up to her car and called her a rich bitch then walked away!
I would hated for him to do that to me, I'm afraid he wouldnt have called anyone else a rich bitch haha...
Anyways...Let's not get off topic.
lol
You're a kid driving an expensive car. Better get used to it.
And better get used to having your car messed with. Most of the people with nice cars got keyed, among other things. I once had my window broken (I was FURIOUS) but I think it was someone messing around and throwing rocks or something. I hope it wasn't intentional, but hey it happens.

I'm not too worried about people keying it at school.
We have hundreds of cameras, alot being in the parking lot, for that reason.
Lol!

I know right.

Well aren't you a lucky 16 year old! Right when I turned 16, getting a new car was not even an option and driving my 210,000 mile 1991 accord was the only option (that is, until they picked up the 2003 Camry: bad choice). I just turned 21 and was contemplating over the coupe and tsx, but when we saw the tsx, I fell in love. Bad news was I went from a 2 door manual to a 4 door automatic. The coupe was going to be about 30,000 out the door so we managed to get the 2009 TSX out the door for about 33,500. I'm overall very pleased with the car and I think you will be too for a 16 year old. Oh yeah, watch out for rocks, the paint is thin. I'd recommend getting a couple layers of clear cloat on this baby before driving. =) Cheers!
I asked the resource officer to show me and he said that 1) they were not recording, and 2) it wouldn't matter because the camera was broken; it had a dark gray spot in the middle.
Lol.
Our Administration has showed us... They showed us on a school-wide broadcast called the "Jib".
Our cameras work quite well.
The only car that has been keyed out there that I know of is a old ass pontiac.
The nicer cars dont get touched, thank God.

I'm just curious about the inner workings of a well off family; why are your parents providing a $30k car, and not a $20k car or a $40k car?
Also, as long as parents are footing the bill for a Honda product, why not get a Civic Si which would be more in line with your age group, maybe make you fit in better rather than stand apart?

wow, theres so many more cars in that price range you could opt for instead. dude look at ALL your options because you can be having a much sportier more in line with your age car
But if i were you... Get a used 1st gen tsx or a used tl-s and get your parents to put the rest of that money toward your college fund

I've always wanted a TSX. Im getting a car my parents would drive sometimes also...As I've said before.
The TSX is by far a much better car, first off the whole "you're young get a coupe" mentality is pretty outdated; almost all the cars in my school are luxury sedans (several 750's, mostly audi's, beamers, etc...) or SUV's and coupes are viewed as cheesy, especially Japanese or American coupes (most people find them obnoxious and usually call the drivers retards pretending to be from the fast and the furious). Besides, when you get into college you'll appreciate the extra room, or when you want to have some fun in the backseat with a girl
My first car when I was 16 was a Maxima. Just because you have a sedan doesn't mean that you have to lug your friends around.
Get what you want, regardless of however many passengers you may or may not have.
4 out of 5 cars I've owned are sedans and it's still only usually me and maybe my lady in the car

I dont really see as age as a reason why you can't get a luxury car. As long as you are aware how hard your parents worked for it and be grateful that you can have one. With people calling young teens with luxury cars 'rich bitches' well i guess they're immature. One thing I would say is that I was well off or rich, I would buy my kids a luxury car only if I can see that they see how hard it is to get it.

Have you walked through a middle school or high school lately? The current young generation is really in the crapper. I cannot believe the amount of disrespect so many young people have to their parents, and the lack of knowing what the real world is really like. Now in the age of "you can't spank your child", kids are really getting away with far too much. The kids aren't completely at fault - parents are too. IMO, parents have gotten lazy, and who knows what this current generation will be like when they are older. The old generation messed up: overspending and living beyond their means, and it took the worst recession since the great depression (right now) to make them realize that we can't keep acting like this. It is only NOW when people are opening more savings accounts and paying down credit cards. I do blame parents for contemplating buying such extravagant things, and then forwarding this to their children.
At 16, you WILL NOT comprehend what it takes to buy a 30, 40, 60, 80k car, much less even a NEW car. There are many people who only buy used because that's all they can afford. And then, a majority of accidents are caused by younger, less experienced drivers, which is why under 18, then 21, and then 25 you get raped on car insurance. More if you're a male.
750s, audis, bmws, spoiled, is all I really think. And I don't think this just on the tsx forum, I think the same with parents buying their kids accord v6 6mt coupes fully loaded, the fastest honda that they currently make, for an inexperienced driver.
This is all my opinion. Every parent has their right to raise their kids exactly how they want. I'm just passionate about the way I will.
And ps - I'm not over 25. And my parents owned an S-class, E-class, C-class, TL, 5 series, IS, you name it. And I went to a magnet high school, and I was fortunate to go to one of the nation's top universities. But my parents did it right, and instilled good values and responsibility. Which is why along the way, my options at 16 were Cavalier, Civic, Corolla, or Jetta. And I kept that car 9 years. Modified to the roof and was one of the nicest cars in school, but all on my own.

And btw, that has NOTHING to do with lumryan, or anyone else on this board that is of younger age, because I haven't personally met you nor am I here to offend you. I'm just stating my opinion/rant.
In the end, the TSX is a nice car, which is why I'm gonna pick one up. And this is a great forum for information.

A lot of the kids say that; "I respect my parents hard work and my good fortune" but I've learned that knowing you should keep your head on and actualy doing so are different things. Ask an alcoholic. I will never tempt my kids egos with luxury cars.
I understand where all of you are coming from. It's not the 30,000 dollars that makes me want it, its the Car Itself. I always wanted the first gen since it came out. Now, the second Gen is even better.
A nice car doesnt make you who you are.
For all the options under 35k, you cant beat it.
-Crash safety ratings
-4 Cylinders
-Technology
-Gas Mileage
Those four factors contribute to the reason why this car is for me, and Why my parents agree.
If I've come off snobby or flashy at all in this post, forgive me.
This whole post is about Which one I should Decide.
Never meant to get everyone so worked up.

On-topic: Lumryan, the TSX would probably be a good car because it is safe, reliable, and only has a 4-cylinder engine and won't encourage you to speed quite as much. Make sure that you don't become the community taxi with such a nice car. My brother had a TL in HS and was always being bothered for rides.
