New TSX - transmission code and ac button

I searched for "transmission code" with no good result and "ac button" with no good results. Either search is wonky or I'm slow.

1. I come from VWAG-land where everything is coded, not only engines but transmissions. I know since I have a 2011 TSX base I have a K24Z3 (or something close to that per Wiki) in my car, but what is the code for the 5 speed auto?

Is it really just the 5 speed auto in the 2003+ Accord, 06+ Civic, and Fit with lame paddle shifters? Fine if it is, means it should be fairly durable, but I'd like some specs on it. Codes help when internet searching. I did see that according to some sources the 2011 TSX auto got a fluid warmer vs. the 09/10 transmission, but a code would help to confirm that.

2. I hope someone has a definitive answer here: when I press the ac button in my car I know the car indicates "ac off" and it pushes the car out of "auto" mode. Does that REALLY mean the compressor stops running until I put it back in auto, or will it run anyway? Meaning, if it's 40F out with no humidity and I want the car to be 68F, I don't really need the ac compressor on, so will hitting "ac off" do that for me? Why can't the "auto" function still work? Or does it? *Yes, I know the compressor needs to cycle from time to time to keep from siezing in the winter - I just don't see the need to run it non-stop in freezing weather*

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum.

1. No, the transmissions are not all the same. TSX 5AT (2009-2011) code: MM7A.

2. A/C in Honda/Acura vehicle do not run at all times. There's a humidity sensor inside the car and the a/c compressor cycle on/off when required. I found it quite pleasant as some a/c only remove the moisture off the air and your eyes and lips all dried up (much like sitting in an airplane). Honda is actually a pioneer in this field, read something in Road & Track a few months back.

You have to 2 choices to get it up to 68F
a. Set Auto and 68. Since 48F outside, the AC won't run.
b. Set AC-OFF and 68. This way is more like "turn the heat" on in earlier cars.

on Honda/Acuras equipped with Auto Climate Control, when the display indicates "A/C OFF", the compressor is always off even if the thermostat demands for cooler air. "A/C ON" means that the compressor will cycle on/off as required even if there is no demand for cooler air from the thermostat.

On models with manual climate controls, the compressor will cycle on/off as required as soon as the you put the air mode selector on "DEF" or "DEF/Feet" modes, and the A/C light will not come on, and cannot be turned off (unless you mod the system!)

Speaking of transmissions, who makes Honda's trannys? Does Honda make their own? I'm guessing they do considering some of the things I've heard along with their proprietary fluid.

And why are they behind times with technology? Why only 5 speeds when 8 speeds are now available from other makes? Quite strange...

Honda makes their own. By trial and error obviously.

Do you really want them to try to master an 8 speed? It took them decades to master their 4 speed auto, and then didn't learn a thing from that fiasco when they made the 5 speed auto. They just now have the 5 speed auto working without issues, lol! Honda does MANY things well - automatic transmissions are not one of them.
