Need Third Party Alarm Recommendations
Need Third Party Alarm Recommendations
Hi all,
I recently purchase two 2009 tsx in with in the past 6 months.
The first tsx was stolen outright from my driveway in a very safe neighborhood. The first tsx was taken away (I believe to be by flat bed) in the middle of the night and my neighborhood is full of light sleepers. There was no sign of forcible entry - just taken outright with no alarm.
I have replace the vehicle with another tsx, but recently it has been broken in. The front passenger side was smashed and items were taken from the car. It was parked in a public parking lot under a very bright light in a facility that's not considered to be dangerous (it's a badmington club). My vehicle was found with the alarm still on but did not sounded when the window was smashed.
There were security cameras but unfortunately, my vehicle was in a blind spot and no suspect was found.
My police officer told me that 1) most stock alarms do not cover window breakeage. Most would not sound and
2) my acura service tech told me that acura alarm does not sound on window breakage. It's for keyless entry/door.
I need recommendations on a third party alarm/remote starter (if included).
Thanks,

Wow, that's some crazy bad luck. I don't blame you for getting a better alarm. I know several people have gotten alarms over in 1G, so you may want to check over there (search for some threads) to see what else is out there.

You just need to weigh the alarm over potential warranty issues. I have a 99 Accord and installed a Delta aftermarket alarm. I love the alarm as if someone nudges the car it beeps, unlike anything Honda/Acura has. The one issue I ran into is that the alarm was spliced with the ignition wiring. The Accords had an issue with the wear of the ignition and needed to be replaced under warranty. Since it was spliced the dealer wasn't going to rewire the alarm and the place that I had the aftermarket alarm went out of business so I was out of luck. Luckily I was able to do it myself and it has been going great for 3 years now but something to consider. If it were me, I would still go with the aftermarket Viper.
I found this relating to the warranty on wikianswers:
If a remote starter is installed at an alarm shop will that void the factory warranty?

It is against federal law for a dealership to tell you your warranty is automatically void.

But be careful who installs your remote start. No licensing on the state or federal level is required. If a Remote start is installed improperly and the dealership can show or prove the remote start is at fault then that fault would NOT be covered under your warranty.
Some Dealerships are telling customers that if they install certain products on their vehicle that they will automatically void their warranty! That is totally false and against the law.
US Code - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312
Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) .Service advisors that tell customers their warranty is automatically Voided if they add wheels, remote starts, fog lights, etc are IN VIOLATION of Federal LAW. For best results, consider working with customer service-oriented dealerships with a proven history of working with customers.

Hcshao, you may want to read my post again. I didn't say that the dealer wouldn't do the warranty work, it's that they would have replaced the ignition switch but they wouldn't splice the wires to hook up the aftermarket alarm.
If I let them do the work I wouldn't know what alarm wires were spliced to the ignition switch to do it at a later time.

I actually got suckered into purchasing an alarm system from the dealer. They initially quoted over $700 for the system. But I talked them down to around $500. I figure I live in NYC and got a pretty good deal on my TSX, so I went with the dealer alarm. He actually got me when he claimed that the warranty would be voided if I went with an after market alarm. He also warned that the stock alarm wouldn't sound on a window breakage. From what I heard, a decent Viper is around $300-$400. So I didn't feel too bad about the price I paid. Also I found out the alarm system I got from the dealer is made from the same parent company as Viper.
Trunk Monkey!
Sorry guys all that is garbage compared to the Trunk Monkey!
