Mileage

Is there a 2nd gen mileage thread?
https://acurazine.com/forums/first-g...1g-tsx-755743/

If not, curious what kind of mileage, and what kind of maintenance is being required. I know about the oil consumption issue. Anything else to watch out for?

I am at 33k on my 2012, with 2k miles a month being added.

Thanks

Hi Rich,

Good amount of miles. You bought it in 11? Any issues?

I have once, based off the MM. I bought it in the middle of December 2011 so I've had it for just over 2 years.

No oil consumption issues whatsoever. FWIW, I use Mobil 1 5W30 with OEM filter. I have replaced front and rear pads and rotors along with rear calipers. Also replaced the battery. No non routine issues.

3 years, not 2.

2012 wagon here.
61k
2 tranny flushes (hills galore)
1 coolant flush
oil every 5k (anal and wasteful maybe)
new battery

Sitting on cushion to make seat more comfortable last 3000 miles.
Back and Butt feeling way better

Looks like only wagon people posting.

KBALL-You doing tranny fluid every 30k miles?

I am at 70% for oil status... so mine is going down 10% per 1K miles.

You guys all using synthetic?

Mine had a new battery put in. New rear pads. Front resurfaced rotors.

2009 Tech 6MT....68k - RV6 Downpipe for more response.

It's sipping on a little oil; maybe like a quart every thousand miles. Oil changes at 40-50% oil life. Gets 32 MPG on the highway cruising at 80MPH.

*snip*

Yeah. I tend to keep my cars a really long time.
Over 150k-200k

The car is paid off, so about $500 a year in maintenance seems like a pretty reasonable investment to me

I'm at almost 50K miles. Zero issues. Oil changes every 6K. Did ATF drain/refill once, will do another one soon.

Any other mods besides RV6 downpipe? DO you really feel it being more responsive?

From the sounds of it, seems like I need to do a ATF drain/refill.

2009 Tech 5AT - 86,500 miles and climbing. Only issues I've had are the brakes, still can't seem to get them right even after 2 sets of different rotor/pad combinations. Other than that, an optima yellow top battery and regular maintenance.

How's your yellow top? I've heard mixed reviews ever since production moved to Mexico or wherever. Have you had to go through any cold wintery mornings where the car wouldn't start? I'm thinking of just going with interstate as my next battery.

Mine's a 2010 base with 6MT, purchased new in Oct. 2009. It has about 86k miles, and apart from a rattle in the upper console that was easily fixed, all issues have been routine, like brakes and I believe a battery. After 14 years in European cars, this has been a huge relief!

Initially, I was changing oil at around 20%, but it's more frequent now because it is starting to burn some oil, probably a quart every 3,000 miles or so. That's not too bad, but it's still surprising for a Honda engine IMO. Even my 2001 Saab wasn't burning any oil after 100k miles, or perhaps I just didn't notice it because I always changed the oil every 3-4,000 miles.

Do you mean can't eliminate the rotor warp issue?

Yeah the oil burning issue is a definite concern of mine. Reason I didn't get another outback instead got the TSX wagon was hoping for bulletproof relaiblity.

It's been really good to me, although the first one I purchased was defective and died in just a few months - luckily it comes with a 2 year warranty & they replaced it free of charge. New one hasn't let me down even in single digit climate.

Yes. It's so annoying, starting to lose hope & may just get a BBK.

Yeah that would annoy the crap out of me

Currently I have new oem pads rear
and front rotors have been resurfaced

so its running good now, but I dont know what I will do next, when the rotors get warped as you are saying

So aftermarket solutions arne't helping?

You can only drain about 2.5 quarts out of 7(?), so I figured doing it every 25-30K ensures fresh ATF for the life of the car. I measure the fluid that came out and put back the exact amount, it's actually easier than changing oil. A case of ATF is $100-110 at the dealer and should last 4 to 5 drain/fills.

2010 base 4 AT. Current 1469xx miles. Bought new in 2009.
Only major issue was recent replacement of front axles and intermediate shaft to eliminate high speed vibration.
Normal maintenance. Replaced front rotors early due to warping. Oil changes have been Mobil one synthetic from the start.
Replaced brakes pads a few times each. Changed transmission fluid 3x3 twice so far.
I had the engine ping repair done last year and noticed a pretty good reduction of about 2-3 mpg.
Still running strong.

What is the engine ping you speak of?
Do you replace brake with OEM, since you had the warping issue?

Intersting on the other forum, I saw a few TSX with front axle replacement as well. I remember that used to effect lowered Hondas back in the day. Diddn't realize stock TSX also have hte axle issue

THank you

Engine ping is a known issue on at least 2009 and 2010 TSX's where there is a noticeable engine knock/ping on acceleration. I had heard it over the years, but it bothered me last year as I was driving with the windows down more often.
There is a TSB for it. They replaced the knock sensor and modified the engine computer to fix it.
I replaced the front rotors with Autozone rotors which weren't expensive. I think they were like $30 a piece. No more warping. I have driven them about 110000 miles since. Probably almost time to do it again. The only modification I did was paint the inner portion with high temperature paint. I had noticed that that area would get rusty and that bothered me.

Same. Autozone. I had the back pads replaced under recall which did help on longevity. They lasted a good 80000 miles before needing replacement again. I noticed the dealership added a spring clip to keep the pads away from the rotors. The Autozone replacements didn't have the holes drilled into the top for the spring clips. I thought about drilling them in myself but decided not to. These pads are going to need to be changed soon. Didn't last long at all, so the spring clip did fix the issue.

I have a 2012 4cyl, and have about 50,500 miles on it. Bought new with about 10 miles, so the miles are all mine.

Car is still on original tires, brakes and battery. Probably do new tires and brakes this summer, when I'll be at 60k. Might push the brakes out to 70k, as they don't seem to be wearing as fast I anticipated.

Just did my first tranny flush at 50k (although the maintenance minder had yet to call for it). All other maintenance is done by me, with oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections every ~10k. Probably do the tranny flush every 30k from now on out, cause it's so easy to do.

Only issue I've had is oil consumption. It burns about 1 quart every 2.5k miles. I find it annoying as hell, but apparently not out of spec. I did also have to add a little coolant at the last maintenance, which is odd. Gonna keep an eye on that. If those are my only two complaints, then I'm ok with the car reliability wise. No squeaks, rattles, or blown speakers.

I just checked my records and, the first transmission fluid change was at 53K via the MM. On my 2007 CRV AWD, now my daughters, I changed the fluid every 40K and that car has 225K miles. I'm still using 5w-20 and it doesn't burn a drop between changes.

Does the CRV and the TSX share the same 2.4?
