Lighting help...what to get.
Lighting help...what to get.
Wanting your guys opinions on lights. I want to replace my DRL and Fogs on my TSX and my headlights, DRL and Fogs on my Honda Pilot. I was looking at getting the Nokya Cosmic White for the headlights, DRL, and then the Hyper yellow for the fogs. I have heard that some lights you can lose visibility or usable light which I really don’t want to do, but would like a whiter looking light for the headlights on the Pilot. Thanks for the help guys!

IDK about the DRL but if you're looking for more light output I'd definitely go with a quality 4300K HID kit for the Pilot's headlights (be careful because the headlights are reflectors, right? you need to make sure the kit has quality shield(s) to prevent glare).
If you need more light than that, do HID kits for the fogs too.

even Acura produced reflector HID headlights.

Early HID designs used all sorts of reflector and projector designs, but neither is a "one-size-fits-all". Many people think that a projector housing is a projector housing and that just isn't true. The bulb design needs to be matched to the housing design and there is no current HID bulb designed for a reflector housing.
All aftermarket conversions use some variant of HID bulbs designed for HID projector housings (yes Virginia, there are halogen bulbs designed for projector housings) that are unsuited for any reflector housing.
There is no aftermarket retrofit that works properly - period. Because of that, there is no aftermarket conversion that is legal - in any first world country.
Your statement about retrofitting HIDs into fog light housings clearly shows that you should do additional research about lighting.

OP ----- 1000s of HID are sold and installed daily, don't get scared off so easy -- lotsa of people on this forum have also installed them into their TSX fogs (I'm ordering a set NOW).
for reflector headlight installs - just make sure to get a shielded bulb like this --

With that said, there are cars that are equipped with reflector style HID and is perfectly legal. These cars will have a glare shield at the bottom of the headlight that will prevent glare. However, these headlights are designed with absolute precision.
The aftermarket bulbs with glare shield on the bottom may prevent some (or significant amount depending on the headlight/ foglight) glare, they are, by no means, perfect. Your headlights will still glare causing a hazardous situation for oncoming traffic.

I don't design headlight housing and neither do you, right? My applications of HID kits have worked 100% perfect (after trial and error) and again I'll say I've never been flashed, ticketed, warned, etc, etc.

FWIW, you have no clue what I do but let's just say that I've forgotten more about automotive lighting than you will ever learn.

For example, a fog light housing is designed to light the area directly in front of, and to the side, of the car. These lighting housings are mounted very low. Putting HID bulbs in such a housing is just plain stupid, decreases visibility and increases glare.
Equally, forcing some jerry-rigged bulb with a deflector into a housing designed for a halogen bulb is equally foolish.
