Installing new mufflers instead of whole catback
Hey everyone so i just installed 2 magna flow 11225 mufflers to my 2011 TSX, left the stock piping and it sounds great. Its loud, deep and no rasp what so ever. Why do people prefer getting a full catback when its really only for sound and not performance gains??
I often wonder the overall difference between tips vs catback in terms of sound.
You do gain HP/TQ just not that much. It is noticeable once you complete the whole system i.e. "headers" jpipe and catback.
In addition to gains (let's not argue about whether they're negligible or not here), some people would like to have an easier time going back to stock if there's the possibility of not liking the outcome, or simply wanting to sell the car in stock form.
With the mufflers, you'll need to cut off the OEM catback's mufflers, and weld on the new mufflers (as far as I know). Going back to stock would mean chopping off the aftermarket mufflers, and welding the OEM mufflers back on. For some, this may not be desirable. It's not "plug and play", if you will.
Not a huge con of mufflers vs. catback, but definitely something to think about.

IF you only want sound then yes your route is fine.
Aayyy I installed the same exact mufflers on my TSX. Love the deep tone and the gurgle and pop sounds it makes when you let off the gas. But honestly my first choice would have been the Greddy Supreme catback, mainly because of the 2.5" piping it has. That .25" increase in pipe diameter might not seem like much, and it honestly isn't, but I think if you combine it with an RV6 downpipe and other modifications it all adds up to a little more power and torque. Eventually I'll get the Greddy catback, but for the next couple years my magnaflows are gonna be great.
