How to open the door when the battery dies from inside the car?

As dumb as it sounds, if the battery dies, i heard that some cars don't have the latch to open the car from inside? Not sure if that is the case but I heard people die from inside the locked cars...

I don't know where my manual is for my 13 TSX, but is there something in the manual or at least would you guys know how to open the door from inside in an emergency?

Stuff may be funny but what if you can't break the glass or don't have your phone around... just being cautious guys...

wait what. our cars have door handles... you can use any of the 4 doors or even crawl into the trunk and use that manual release if you want to come out the trunk for whatever reason.

The handle is a direct connection to the latch and has nothing at all to do with the battery.

Were you drunk when you posted this?

You can manually unlock the door and open it using the door handle.....

But in your case, keep a small hammer in your glove box > smash the window > record > post here.

This is a real problem. My buddy sold his Ariel Atom because it lacked a backup mechanism for if the battery went flat. It was flabbergasting that they were allowed to sell that deathtrap without interior door handles.

I recommend keeping an emergency escape hammer, a belt cutter, a small blanket, at least 5 gallons of water, and some prepackaged camping meals inside the glovebox for justin case.

But always try pulling the door handle first.

Oh, and unlike that corvette guy, you should always write "HELP" in large letters in the inside of the windshield with feces. But don't forget to write it backwards so it can be read from outside. Then just hang tight and wait for help.

Here you go. One for each window. This post demonstrates clearly the hazards of legalizing previously illegal substances.

I think it's important you guys know it can be pretty difficult to smash a window with a hammer, it bounces off. If you have to do that, hit in a corner, attack its weak point for massive damage!

Additionally a small window breaker punch tool will do the job.

Throw a piece of porcelain at it! Much more effective and much smaller than a hammer!

Actually it is a problem with tech laden cars. Texas man, dog die after being trapped in Corvette and before you start making fun of old guys in Texas, remember we carry guns

That was specifically the guy I was making fun of. He killed himself and his dog because he was a moron. He could have easily gotten out if he paid attention to his car.

And the gun argument doesn't work. Obviously he could have Yosemite Sam'd his way out of the car if he was packing heat, right? So he's either a moron or a "bad Texan", either of which seems to be a death sentence in the loan star state.

Porcelain doesn't work on tempered glass.
I think it was a great question.

I remember fuse #6 took a sh*t...I couldn't arm the car or use keyless to open/unlock the damn car. Sucks how much we rely on technology now. I have a feeling OP thought that the door handles electronically engage/disengage the mechanical door latch system.

Once I left the headlights on for the night in the garage (Yes that's possible) and drained the battery. My jumper cables were in the trunk and realized that the trunk buttons were all electronically controlled.

Took me an hour to find out that there was a manual release (using the car key) beside the child latch behind the rear left headrest.

LOL...my biggest problem is that I did the keyhole delete...I closed and locked the car, pulled battery to get a new one, then dropped the hood at pep boys. I didn't have a small screwdriver to get the keyhole cover off.

my dumbass thought my hood latch was broken...

I was working on the engine and I closed the hood the night before and didnt realize that ALL I HAD TO DO WAS PULL THE HOOD RELEASE.

I ended up going through the grille to un-do the latch mechanism that holds the hood to the frame.
once i did that, the latch spring came un-done.

so, i had to put back together the spring-latch...then attach the latch back to the frame.

this is why im justonjacks and not justnspace

How to open the door when the battery dies from inside the car?

This is a serious problem.. It reminds me of the one time I was going down an escalator at a Saks Fifth Avenue.. All of a sudden, all the power went out and the escalator just stopped moving. I was the only one on it so started to freak out and was hyperventilating.. Luckily, I had my iPhone, so I immediately dialed 911 to let them know the situation.. The operator thought I was crazy too! Can you believe the audacity ?!? But i assured her I was not crazy and was indeed stuck here because the power went out!! She told me to WALK!! I was not about to just walk down that broken escalator, that sounds like a death wish! I told her I would wait as long as it takes for help. Finally a fireman (his name was John, I'll never forget his kindness) came up the escalator and carried me down.. My life flashed before my eyes in those 2 hours.. I vow to this day never to get on an escalator again... You may never know when the power may cut out again and you just end up being stuck on it.. Don't risk it guys.

Also never shopping at Saks again...

If you get locked in your TSX because the battery went dead then a hammer will get you out.

A person I know, used to have a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am, apparently coins could fall in the center console and when they went into the right location it would short out the power locks. The grand am was like our TSX where if the door is locked the handle will not open it form the inside, some cars that does work where it just manually unlocks in that case. Anyhow she turns off the car and it's summer time. She gets her stuff together and gets ready to get out, the car normally automatically unlocks the door when you turned it off. But not this time.

She tries, tries again, pushes the button! NOTHING IS WORKING. She's completely starting to panic! She starts to sweat as it's really hot, she starts the car, because the only possible solution is to turn the A/C on, but then thinks to open the glove box, and locates... THE OWNERS MANUAL!!! She then opens the owners manual, and then reads about how to slide the manual lock button to open the door. Had it not been for the owners manual, she would still be in that car today.

OK. So I'm not only a member and president of the local chapter of the Hair Club For Men, but I'm also a Man of the Cloth and a Man of Science.

So with praises to Allah, Vishnu, and the Mother Mary, I have performed a science experiment to hopefully once and for all address what to do if you get locked inside your TSX with a dead battery:

I hope you had a window open, the fire dept standing by and 911 on the line while you tried this dangerous experiment.

Maybe next time you could do a video showing how to unlatch a seatbelt. Opening the door does no good if you can't unlatch the belt.

Some members here apparently need that help.
