Extended warranty

I am buying an 2010 Acura TSX Tech Package tomorrow. And I needed help deciding if I should accept the extended warranty. The car comes with a 5 yr/62 k warranty, and i can upgrade to a 10 yr/100 k warranty. I usually never get the extended warranty, but because this car has so many high-tech features I'm not sure if I should get the extended warranty. It was being offered for about $1500. Please let me know what you think.

This is a used vehicle?
Just asking because as far as I know, the warranty on new ones is 4 yrs/50k miles. CPOs are 5 yr/62k miles.
Either way, I'd get it. If you aren't sure now, you have the option to buy it until the original warranty is up.

I would say the 10yr / 100k is a good deal @ $1.5k, considering the amount of electric issues that could potentially go wrong with the TSX.
Just my 2 cents.
If I buy my '09 off the lease I am going to seriously consider the extended warranty.

If you plan to keep it for the length of the coverage, then YES!
We bought a 2010 when they came out a year ago. I got the 10yr 100,000 extended on it.
We keep our cars and put miles on them. So I felt it would be worth it.
Our 01 CL-S has 218,000 on it now. Daily driver for me.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm on the same boat. My car is CPO and comes with 7yr/10k drivetrain and powertrain warranty for free. My car is a 2010 and has 57k miles on it already. They are offering $650 to extend the electrical warranty to 7yr/10k as well (so that would be in 4 years or 40k miles, whatever comes first). Is the extended electrical coverage worth it?

Extended warranty fall into the “Peace of Mind” category. I would get it if it made me feel more at ease with your purchase.
Car companies only offer this type of coverage because they will make money way before you have an issue that will exceed your initial investment majority of the time. I declined the extended warranty offer for my 06 TSX (99,000 miles now) and 08 RDX (87,000 miles now) when they were offered a few years ago. I've had zero issues other than routine maintenance with the TSX (oil, tires, brakes, battery, wheel balance, map lights, etc...). The only out of basic warranty issue I've had with the RDX was a replacement of a brake booster sensor for $280 last year. Both my 06 TSX and 08 RDX have a lot of the same parts as the +09 TSX and both of my vehicles have been extremely reliable.
I don’t know the details for the Acura extended warranty; but, I sure it is not as comprehensive as the original 4yr/50,000 mile. I would double-check the details and ensure it covers 80-100% of the high dollar areas like the A/C, ELS system, Navi system, suspension, electrical, steering, master cylinder, etc…

FYI..... I just bought a 2009 TL with 29,000 miles on it. Original warranty set to expire within one month (due to time, not mileage). I did all the research for extended warranties on-line. I ended up paying $1585 for the 5/yr 120,000 mile -0- deductable package at Hyannis Honda (Massachusetts)....and I am in New York. I wouold recommend looking them up and getting a price from them. The gentlemans name I dealt with was Bob Leab. The Acura dealer I bought the car at wanted $2,000 for the same extended warranty, I saved $400 by buying from Hyannis Honda. Keep in mind that ANY Acura/Honda dealership can sell you an extended warranty (An official Acura warranty, not a 3rd party warranty). Shop around and you can save money. Good luck!!!!

Warranty
I too just got a 2010 6-speed Tech with 36K miles and extended warranty for slightly above what you got quoted for. Other posters say peace of mind which I totally agree. I like to take care of my car as much as possible, but when it comes down to those tech and powertrain stuff, your out of pocket costs are going to jump. I did it and won't have to worry about anything until the 100K mark, hopefully keep it way past then. If you are doing the same, then jump on it.
