Dismayed from lack of aftermarket support.

I've had my 2nd gen since last labor day, a whole year and then some only to be disappointed by the lack of aftermarket support this car has gotten.

I can't even get a K&N drop in filter, cause they don't make it yet. The one product that is out, (Takeda CAI) is about 50-80 bucks overpriced compared to CAI's for other cars, because it's the only thing out right now.

The CT Engineering Supercharger and Icebox look promising and all, but I'm not holding my breath for the release dates, seeing as no other companies are in a rush either.

Further disappointment comes along when I visit King Motorsport's website to see that Mugen's 2010 Insight parts are shipping soon. Yeah... 2010 Insight. A Hybrid car is getting more aftermarket support, and sooner than on this car. Seriously. It's like a slap in the face.

Anyhoo... just wanted to vent... hope I don't get flamed.

Does anyone have an idea of whether there is a exhaust system in the works?

I am completely with you. Seeing how many parts there were for the 1st Gen TSX, you would think that the 2nd gen would get the ball rolling much quicker. I don't know if its because of the economy but i've also been very dismayed by the lack of aftermarket companies jumping on this car.

i guess we have to give it time. I remember when the reflash was released for the 05 TSX MT and it took them three years to make a reflash for the AT. Hondata had made one for the 04 MT and AT and 06 MT and AT.

Im definitely waiting for the reflash for the 09s since the supercharger is out of my league for the moment

This thing was released on April 24th 08 (?) (my birthday, kinda funny) so I can see there wasn't enough time to tool up for anything at last years SEMA show. The manufacturers were probably still working on 07 and 08 apps at the time.

Now that the show is coming up again, we should see a lot of new offerings at this years' show. However, there's been many times where new stuff had its debut at the show yet still be unavailable as of mid year *following* the preview. I believe the manufacturers take a wait & see attitude on new product based on inquiries at the show.

IMHO, Patcracks has a good point that the initial bashing probably did do something to delay R&D and tool-up time as they waited to see if it would gain acceptance and make the research time worth the initial cost. It wouldn't make sense to pass over a more popular application in favor of a 'maybe', even if it *is* a Honda.

good things come to those who wait. there's no need to make a fuss about it for the time being. enjoy your car in its stock state for awhile...

Today's ecenomic issues are having a huge impact these days on the aftermarket industry. Some companies have gone under while others have gotten very selective with the parts they produce and the cars they produce them for. Unfortunately, the TSX is on the lower end of the money-making spectrum.

For the most part, the performance and tuner scene is a young man's game. Those of us in their 30's, needless to say 40's or 50's are just overgrown kids and not the target audience. Think about a typical recent college grad justifying a 32k car when a freakin' Civic Si is 25-30k+ (USDM Mugen Si)

I bet they sell a hail of a lot more mods for Civic LX/EX's and Fits than they will for Si's or TSX's.

Then again, there are a lot of 20-something's here.

25 here. I think you are over estimating the TSX market a bit. I would imagine the cut to the TL is around 35 and below that is more the TSX crowd.

I don't think I'm over estimating the *target* for the TSX. Do a thread search from a member here named Colin about the demographic from Acura. It's a lot older and with a higher median income than I expected.

My comment wasn't about the car buying demographic as a whole, but rather those who lament the lack of available mods when something like a Civic outsells the TSX and is more popular with the 30(?) and younger crowd. Obviously as stated to the left here, I'm on the higher side age wise of a TSX owner, yet IIRC in the middle of the target.

Tuner stuff has to go where the money is, and the sheer numbers for a less expensive car has to come first.

I guess I am coming off a 335i BMW which has a huge maket, but the n54 engine has been out since 2006 so that makes a big difference too. I was amazed at the number of people with the 335 under 30 and figured the TSX would be comparable car so the buyers would be the same.

I would expect that the CT-E airbox, exhaust, supercharger, swaybar and springs will be available to all before the end of the year. If that is the case I think that in a year and of half that is a lot of performance stuff available. That doen't even include companys like Tein, Eibach, and Takata. Plus remember major tuner companys have seen massive sale decreases in recent years. Look and Greddy they filed chapter 11 not that long ago and pulled it out but I haven't seen them pushing for new product like they used to.

It was at least a year before anything interesting came out for the first gen, and it was available overseas for a year before that.

There are some parts already available:

Eibach, H&R, Progress, and TEIN Springs
TEIN Coilovers
Progress Rear Sway Bar and Endlinks
TAKEDA Intake (CT-E Icebox is in the works)
ROTORA Performance Rotors and Big Brake Kit
CT-E S/C Kit in the works

That's all I can remember at the moment. That's not bad considering the audience and that excludes cosmetic mods.
