Disappointing Mileage 10' TSX 4-cyl

I average only 28-mpg hand calculated. 40/60% city/hwy driving. This is a small 4-cyl car.... I drive with a very light foot. Why such poor fuel mileage? I've driven 6-cyl full size cars with better mileage. Anything I can do to improve?

in my past, I drove a 2002 Dodge ram v6!
the v8's were getting WAAAAAY better gas mileage.
why?
weight.
the tiny v6 struggled to move the 2 ton pickup in the city

your car is like 3400lbs....that's pretty hefty.

28mpg mixed is pretty good for a 3400LB car.

What kind of V6 car were you driving before that was getting BETTER than 28mpg? That is quite a feat.

Also...city? Or suburbs? People throw the word "city" around.

I'm averaging 29.8 in my 2014 Sportwagon. Mostly highway driving. Curious to see if it goes down now that I live at a higher elevation, will do more city driving and only have 91 octane vs the 93 available in Texas.

In a corvette, you can get 30mpg!!!!!!!!
although, it's no fun to go 55mph on the freeway.

also wondering if his past v6's or the ones he drove were like 1999 camry's...
curb weight is right around 3000lbs, which would be a significant difference between the TSX at 3400lbs
add fluids, people, baggage...etc.

I still wouldn't think one would get >28MPG in a 6 cyl car (mixed driving).

Purely highway? Yeah, that's fairly easy.

Not much can be done to alter fuel mileage, so It is what you get, but the your numbers are actually above the EPA mileage:
4cyl AT 21/30 25 combined
4cyl 6MT 20/28 23
6cyl AT 18/27 21

If you're not happy about the mileage, guess some research should have been done before purchase.

Trade it in for a 6 cylinder that gets better mileage... research about MPG BEFORE you bought it might have work too.

Like stated above...that's good MPG's.

I noted that as well. If the TSX is small....then what size was his past V6 car? And how was it getting 28mpg mixed? Was it a diesel?

A civic would be a small 4cyl car. It would also get more than 28MPG in mixed conditions...but maybe not significantly more.

Anyway, OP is gone. We should talk about something else.

Do you guys prefer snug, or loosely fitted pants?

Does anyone know a good story about a bridge?

Do you prefer being of average height?

^well...yes...only a cave person would wear un-tailored suit pants. Though, in 1 or 2 cases, I have fit into off the shelf pants from "european style" suits.

I was more talking about jeans.

I am 5'11...which is technically above average. But I still feel like the whole world was built for me.

Thanks for the reply!!

I'm so lonely :'(

hey we're the same height!!

Slim fit jeans as well.. Preferably with some stretch so I can move around. I've got bigger legs..dick than most skinner jean toothpick mofos so i can't just wear those skinny jeans from H&M or Abercrombie.

I can wear off the shelf for most things so it's great... Plus an s2000 fits me like a glove... fuck i need me an s2000

I have noticed when putting gas from Costco or other places that has up to 10% Ethanol my MPG drops and my TSX MPG is way better then my 06 TL. I get about 375-410 miles 22/25MPG lots of stop and go and freeway in the morning and afternoon.

I also check tire pressure weekly and with good clean air filter and a oil change I do get great gas mileage.

Here is some info if you do pump gas at stations that has Ethanol mixed.. https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=27&t=4

Damn, player. We're similar as a MF.

LMK.

**edit. I have skinny legs. I am fairly sure I evolved from birds. hence my articulating neck and ability to perch atop things. Plus, the constant sqwaking

Isn't it funny?

We're all afraid about the government spying on us...yet here we are, giving out the most erotic details about our phisique.

Then again....the NSA already knows I'm 6'8, 950LB.

And that my only regret is not growing that extra inch so that my height matches my favourite number.

I know this thread has moved on, but I bought my 09 last October. I've driven it just shy of 10000 miles since then and I'm about 30/70 City/Hwy. I'm averaging 28.3 mpg (pump/odometer calculated). Epa is 21/30 city/hwy, so at 30/70% split, that should be around 26.5 mpg or so, so I'm doing a bit better than EPA. Since you say about 40/60% city/hwy, you are doing better still. At 40/60, that's about 25.6 mpg based on the EPA estimates. As others have said, it's a heavy car.

Other talked about V6s. I had a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue. 3.5L V6. Weighed about 3500 lbs. 20/30mpg city/hwy according to the EPA. I got 24-26 mpg in mixed driving. The TSX does a little better.

I find I usually do better than the EPA says. I've not owned a non-Honda for well over 10 years, though...

It's hard to say if that's normal or not, I mean it's a 7yo car. Doesn't sound terrible. Are you doing your oil changes on time? Spark plugs new? Tires pumped? Is that 28mpg using regular or premium gas? Just too many variables there...

I usually turn my car off 1/4mi before my house, coast into my driveway and then quickly push it into my garage so I get that extra MPG. It's honestly the best way.

Correct - that's norm according to EPA. I was just trying to answer "Anything I can do to improve" part :-)

Cost of driving a car 28 miles at current premium gas prices: under $4.

Ridin a bicycle or walking 28 miles at my rate of food consumption would equal about 3 or 4 sandwiches. At today's prices of $8/sandwich, that journey would net $24-32...AND processing the animals in those sandwiches would have polluted more than the car....AND the materials for those sandwiches is transported by truck....AND the store selling those sandwiches uses MASSIVE electricity, which comes from fossil fuel.

DISAPPOINTED still, OP? Surely, you jest...or there is just no pleasing you.
