First off, I am sorry for being the guy that starts another thread about this. However, I just got my oil changed at the the dealership with a synthetic blend (Mobil super) and the cost wound up being $59. I didnt mind paying that, but from what I am reading here, that is higher than what most people are paying at the dealership. Anyone else have to pay that much?

Lesson learned - I will be changing my own oil from now on.

 

dealers are franchises.
which means they can make up any price point they want. supply and demand

so, yes, if you feel you overpaid, dont go back or do it yourself.

 

It's really not that much, I pay close to $70 for 4L of full synthetic 10W-30 race oil.

 

that's pretty standard dealer pricing..


like you said, DIY. it's stupid easy and saves you some dough plus you learn about your car.

 

You can save money DIY, but the price really isn't that bad. I paid $55 (synthetic blend) which also included a car wash.

 

Mobil super is a good oil, however I remember it being a more budget friendly alternative to their Mobil 1 line up. I remember putting that oil in my other car, and doing some research on it when it was newer. The reviews for it were great so I don't think there is anything to worry about.

In the future you may want to do the oil yourself. A jug of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter cost me $40. You can cut a few corners and get some cheaper oil and a bit cheaper filter (OEM is about $5 I believe) and lower the cost about $10. Up to you, but I enjoy changing the oil on my cars.

 

I'm not understanding the relevance (no offense) to OP's quandry.

$59 for a syn blend oil change seems high AF.

If you're doing it yourself, an OTS synthetic change and filter should cost like... $25-30? I buy bulk amounts of drain washers from Honda. Oil from Amazon or parts stores (whichever is cheaper).

 

I run reg oil. I pay $16 for my oil changes from stealership. My local one has a price matching policy, they will match any dealer/local business. I take the pennysaver coupon ad with me showing a $15 oil change special and they have always honor it.

But depends on the value of your time, DIY is always going to be cheaper if you buy all the parts at a good price.

For my first ever oil change with this car I went to a Mobil 1 express place and they charged me around $110 for the oil+filter. I got robbed.

59 is high for syn/blend/ even at the dealership. but again people called them "stealership" for a reason.

Try full synthetic next time and the car runs much smoother
