A/C and its indication?

Can someone please re-confirm that if the "A/C ON" indicated on the display means the air conditioning is ON, then we can assume that if the "A/C ON" isn't shown on the display, means the A/C is turning OFF (except the AUTO mode)?

When AC on is displayed, then the AC is forced by the user to be on. Same for AC off. This means that the AC will not turn on, even in defrost mode.

The beauty of our system is that you have some control over what is going on... Youcan override almost any setting, and the overriden settings will show on the display. If a setting is not "shown", then it is assumed to be auto. If everything is auto, then the green light on the auto button will light up.

Thanks TSXV6Guy,
I didn't pay attention on the "A/C OFF" indication, so I thought if no "A/C ON" show, then assuming its OFF.
I'll check the "A/C OFF" again and get back later.

Auto = Green light on, everything is in AUTO

If you hit the fan speed up or down - AC is on but its not in AUTO, you control fan speed and cooling/heating.

If you hit the AC button, it will show AC ON or AC OFF. This is useful if you dont want the AC ON (like climbing hills) or you want to manually control it (without it holding the temp).

TheGoodGuy has cleared my mind and I reconfirm that the A/C is actually off if
a. the OFF button is hit
b. the A/C button is hit AND the A/C OFF indicator lit.
Otherwise, the AC is ON.

Thanks again, TGG

I'm saying the AC on the 2nd gen TSX robs more power than the first gen TSX. It's noticeable.

In Defrost mode though, the ac indicator doesn't come on but the A/C is in fact on. Pressing A/C will turn it off, and it's actually off. I had a civic and even with the ac indicator off, it was still on.

Another interesting thing I just found, we have dual speed cooling fans. They run depending on A/C demand apparently. Car wasn't warmed up and the fans run at a fraction of full speed. I lowered the temp to lo and they hopped up to high speed, put it back to the 72 and they ran slower again. Fancy car. lol.

Yes absolutely. When i test drove the car, i tried this by looking at the compressor to see whether it was actually off... Note that, on honda accords without the auto climate control, you cannot turn the ac off in defrost mode. I thimk the light does not even come on but the compressor does. I have actually physically disconnected the defrost/AC interlink on the wife's toyota cause i fing this annoying....

Don't know what happpend to your post pinatubo, but bascially if you want just VENT you turn the temp all the way down to Lo. this makes the airflow bypass the heater core. Then use the fan speed to set any speed you want. If you turn the system off in the Lo setting i'm pretty sure it just keeps the air from passing through the heater core and acts as a purely vent system.
