Exclamation C&D Comparo: 2010 Acura TSX V6 vs 2011 Buick Regal CXL vs VW CC 2.0T

Interesting comparo considering GM was claiming the new buick turbo would be able to compete easily with other V6's in its class.

i read this comparo. it sucks that the v6 is so nose heavy. really hurts handling. they said to stick with the 6m/t 4 banger.

I don't understand how they think the CC has the best interior? I disagree.

It's a subjective issue. I don't mind it myself (though I haven't sat in a 2G TSX yet) but a lot of people are bothered by the fake aluminum in newer Acuras, not just the TSX. Some people don't like the massive sea of buttons (another thing I don't mind at all) or the gauges (yet another) or maybe something else about it bothers them.

Appears that some of them didn't like the exterior styling either. Again, it's all subjective. They didn't like the silver on the dash in the CC but they loved almost everything else about it.

I love my tsx, but the interior does not feel special at all. The design is fine, but it's let down by cheap looking fake aluminum and no bling factor at all. It feels like a Honda with a little flair instead of an entry level luxury car interior.

How the heck does the Buick weigh 3773 pounds with a four banger in it? That has near terrible performance considering it has 258 pound of torque. The 0-60 of 7.5 is OK, but the real numbers I stare at that C&D puts for real world driving are the 5-60 starts. In this regard, the Buick does 5-60 in 8.3 seconds! With a 6 speed auto! That's TSX I4 auto territory.

I know it's all subjective, but they didn't have to pick the CC as having the best interior. They could have stated that neither vehicles had a good interior.

I'd rather have an ugly interior and be able to fit three people in the back than to have a nice interior and only seat two people in the back.

The Buick comment, to me, means that at the end of the day it is still an old man's car.

Decent Article, I looked at the CC as well, but i've had an Audi, and know a bunch of people with VW's and the reliability and repair costs are no where near Honda/Acura.
Plus I didn't want a turbo (that's just asking for another headache around 60k miles)

I also didn't feel the V6 was worth the premium, when the average speed of my drive is 26mph (mostly City)

All-in-all I still feel the TSX was my best option for price/performance/style/tech/reliability

The buick is just too tall, and too narrow.. it looks odd. I do like the looks of the CC tho. I do wish the interior of my Acura didn't look like an Accord interior, they coulda changed it up for the "Acura" namesake.

Thanks for the link! Just another reminder of how much Acura gave up when they replaced Gen 1's hydraulic steering with Gen 2's electric version. I love the steering feel and overall balance of my I4 TSX.

I'm a CD subscriber and was surprised to see an Acura even made it into the magazine. The editors have been brutal, if not arrogant, to HMoCo. Yet this is another CD comparison where the cars are slightly mismatched to start with (two have a turbo and the TSX a V-6). And what about the Sonata on page 120. It is priced less than 30k, but everything else is line with the other vehicles in the test “comparo.” My guess is somewhere down the line the TSX will get a turbo like the RDX with the exception of a front mounted intercooler.

I beg to differ... I think C&D are neither brutal, nor arrogant to Honda. How could they be brutal and arrogant to Honda when they have chosen the Accord as a 10Best winner 24 times out of the past 28 years? It is by and large the longest reining title holder on the list. If that's brutal or arrogant to the brand, I fail to see how... The Accord is unbeatable for its intended purpose within its segment.

With the above being said, I think C&D is brutally honest (minus the bias to BMW), and often, the truth hurts. As of late, most of the cars that Honda has been pumping out have been less than exciting and much more appliances than the company's historical roots lend to. It's a shame that their heritage of sporty cars has diminished to the point of where it is currently. So if C&D has bumped the TSX to second best, perhaps that's where it belongs...

I have a 1G TSX, for the record. I think in its plight to find prestige in the market segment, Honda has turned the value that was once Acura into a status symbol. I'll take a sporty little 4-banger that is a blast to drive like my TSX or the S2000 10 times out of 10 before I'd sacrifice it for status. Though the 2G is a great car that hasn't totally lost its roots, I thnk it's the very last piece of original Honda that we'll see in a while.

Like what other said, it sounds better than a Buick.

You can't really say its basically a Honda.

So that means I can say. I test drove a Rolls-Royce last summer, its basically a BMW.. Nothing special.

I test drove a Porsche 997 GT2, its basically a VW, nothing special.

Same goes for Lexus to Toyota and so on. Almost every company for cars has a parent or branched out company, which makes both company share similar equipment. Its true for all of these companies. No matter what, Acura is a Honda, Lexus is a Toyota, Infiniti is a Nissan, Rolls-Royce is a BMW, Porsche is VW, Audi is a VW, and so on.

Actually, he can. What's different in this case is that the Acura TSX is actually a Euro Honda Accord with different badges and a different grille. Otherwise, it's EXACTLY the same.

You can't say the same about a Porsche 997 GT2. it's owned by VW, but it shares nothing with any VW cars.
