Buying a Used 2009 or 2010 TSX. Upgrading from 2004 TSX, is it too boring?
Hey guys,
I currently own a 2004 TSX that I bought 5 years ago for 16k when it was at 73k. I loved the car and put a good 55k miles additional on it. Never had a problem and always thought I got a good deal buying it used.
I want to do the exact same thing for the new TSX but Im worried that I will get bored of it? Does it feel exactly the same?
Also what price point is decent? I saw one on craigslist for a 2009 black with 45k miles for about 20k.
If I can sell mycar for 9k, I just need to drop 11k for the upgrade. not bad!! I love buying gently used cars. hahaha

personally, i think the 2g looks better.
i looked at CU1s for a while because i think they look awesome modded but stock for stock, i think the CU2 is a much better car.
i still want a CU1 later to mod and keep the CU2.

2ng gen is a bit over an inch longer in wheel base and 80 to 200 lbs heavier based on transmission choice and options. It's bigger, but not that much bigger. I think it's pretty fun to drive for what it is, though it does feel alot less powerful than my previous modified turbocharged Subaru, but that thing was a torque monster.
Drive one, see what you think. I think it's alot of fun and I'm fairly picky.

All of these "should I buy" or "how does it compare to xxxx" can be answered by the following magic cure all statement:
Go test drive it.

IMO, not boring. That's just me though. I also think 2g looks better. This car is a blast to drive.
As for price, I got my 09 last year with 38K for just under $23K. I'm seeing them now with the same mileage for $20-21K.
As others have said, test drive. Then you will know for sure.

i owned a cl9 before getting the cu2 and i love the change wish i went v6 manual though if you can find a v6 for that price i would pull the trigger no question if not keep your cl9 and mod the shit out of it.

Sweet thanks all for the honest advice!!
Yeah, I would mod it but its a glacier blue color and I dont think I can mod too much with that color.
I definitely plan on getting a black or gunmetal color 2009 TSX. I will test drive it and see how I like it.

i owned an 08 Cl9 and now i have a 10 CU2, i definitely enjoy the CU2 ALOT more, but the one thing you will miss on the CL9 if both are auto is the sport shift mode. the first gen you used the gear shift, on the second gen there are paddle shifters which i hate

Try a 2011 if you can. The steering in my opinion is much better.

NICE Pictures!
Yeah I guess I can do a lot to them but would rather save the money and spend it on a new car.
Will definitely take a look at the 2009 and 2010 tsx. Hopefully I can test drive a 2012 and it will be the same. hahaha

test driving both cars, no it does not feel like the 1st gen in any way shape or form.
The biggest discrepancy is in the steering. How the car moves when going into a turn. The 1st gen feels really sharp, steering feels heavier and damp, you know where the car is going. In the 2nd gen, you get a lot of body roll and understeer, whether thats dude to the size and extended wheelbase, I'm not sure. Second is the acceleration. The 1st gen feels a bit slower from a dig, but past 6K rpm, car starts to feel quicker/lighter. The 2nd gen has more power on the low end.
With that said, doesn't mean the 2nd gen isn't great handling car. Given its size, it handles quite well (feels light too), but since you wanted a direct comparison to your car, it won't fullfill you there.

I disagree with your description of the 2G's handling. I think it has much less body roll and understeer than the prior generation, partly because of its additional width.
Within the second generation, I would avoid the 2009 model year because of the vague on-center steering feel and engine pinging issues.

Though, maybe the 5EAT car would feel different due to more weight in the front. I wish I could make the hood 20+lb lighter and have a really small, light battery -- I bet that would help with plowing.

The fit and finish is not even comparing to the 2004. There are couple noises from driver-half-way-down window, sunroof, and passenger side (metal noise). The air conditioner is making high pitch sound on Auto. I still yet to bring it back to dealer to check them out. The fun factor is not there and I am bit regret now. I say don’t do it. Get a Mazda or something.

Thanks guys for all of your input. I dont even know what body roll and plowing means. hahaha
But yeah after doing some research on this forum, it sounds like the 2009 has had its fair share of problems.
I will go for either the 2010 TSX or something else entirley!

i have a 2009 that has been a blast to drive got it for a good deal from acura dealer had 28k on it for 21999. only thing wrong has been the front grill peeling and the front brake rotors were warped. other than that no problems not even the dreaded rear brake pad wear. its so comfy just wish i could have found a v6 but with gas prices rising again im appreciating the i4

Honestly, it comes down to if you like the newer model. If yes, buy it. Get what makes you happy.
