Brake issue

So the other day coming home from work, I started hearing that annoying grinding sound coming from the right rear. When I got home, I could clearly see I had half of the right front pad, but I noticed the rim was hot enough to cook dinner on. Sucks...

Pulled the rim off, pulled the caliper off and pulled the pads out. Rear pad = gone! Again...sucks!

It ALWAYS happens when you have somewhere to be in a hurry. Thought the caliper might be the problem, but that pushed back in no problem, so I got some new pads and went to put them in, just to get me back on the road. When I went to move the guide pins, the top one moved fine...bottom one was seized. Well, found the culprit! After about 30 minutes with a BFR, I finally got the sucker out! Ground it down a little bit to take off some corrosion, slapped on some new lube, put everything back together, and back in business!

In the meantime, got some new rotors and pads on order to do it right this weekend, but DAMN!

Initially I was pissed, but then realized that this was after 83,500 miles on original rear brakes! If the guide pin didn't hang up, makes me wonder how long I could have gotten out of them? By this time on my old 06 Impala, I had replaced the rear brakes three times already!

Needless to say, I'm OK with 83K on rear brakes...

i'm surprised you went 83k on your rear pads, were they stock? most of us had to replace our stock rear pads at around 20k.

I was surprised too. Yes, they were stock.

I made it 50K and mine were toast and the dealer was impressed that they lasted that long. And I received an "upgraded" pair with "springs" Those springs are SO cheap I wonder that they even do anything?
