anyone know what this is?

i found this weird sensor looking thing on the bottom of my dashboard on drivers side. it has a button on it. idk what it does. it looks like it was installed outside of the factory with just screws. possibly dealer installed. my car is a new lease. no one has sat in it before me.

It's aftermarket looking because it is aftermarket. Looks like cheap plastic. My car didn't have that.

Maybe try asking the dealer?

It's the dealership "enhanced" alarm system. When signing all the papers you have the option of keeping it activated if you pay them for it. Otherwise, they deactivate it, but don't remove it. Mine has it too.

Aftermarket item. No doubt about it. Somebody not only sat in your car before you they drilled holes in your dash, installed machine screws, and ran wiring. Looks like they gouged the plastic doing it too.

How many miles were on it when you leased it?
I'd be all over the dealer about it if it were my "new" TSX.

well that sucks......so is it an enhanced alarm? or a gps locator? if its a gps locator im getting rid of it, and if the dealer says anything, imma tell them wtf are u doing putting shit in MY car? (as far as theyre concerned, im buying this car). and if its an enhanced alarm...? what does the button do on it...? why does it have a reader type sensor....? and y is it pointed at the drivers balls? and btw if it WAS a gps tracker, it would b hidden somewhere else. it had under 100 miles when i leased it because it was a trade from another dealer. so ok fine...some guy DID sit in my car and drove it for a while......but not an owner.

Right. You keep believing the dealers.

Bro

Someone drove that TSX "Like a Boss" for ~100 miles. They had something installed that
included that 'upskirts wireless camera'

Then for some reason they DUMPED it back to the dealer after removed their mods except that one device and 400 trips down the drag strip testing their new______________________

I would be showing up Monday morning at my dealer WITH my lawyer asking for a new car if that's what you paid for.

^ I don't think it matters, though. You bought a new car. There shouldn't be any aftermarket shit in there, period.

since NONE of us have it......someone added SOMETHING that isnt OEM.

if it was sold/leased to you as a used vehicle then OK. anything can happen. If they sold it to you as a NEW vehicle with 100 transport/test drive miles then thats another story.

i went back and now see this is a Leased car. I KNOW NOTHING about a lease......have never leased. so maybe it doesnt really matter on that kind of deal IDK.

Doesn't matter if it's a lease... a lease is just another way to finance the car, has nothing to do with whether the dealer is allowed to put shit in your car.

yeah ur right. lease is supposed to b brand new. and thats how i got the car. brand new. at first i questioned that little sensor but never took a closer look. it looked like it was there for a reason for the car. but after looking closely it looked aftermarket and since most of u dont have it, it IS aftermarket. but would i have a good reason to argue with them? no one else here leased? im gonna swing by another acura dealer and ask them what it is. then after i know, ill go back to the one i got the car at.

I leased both my cars. There should be 0% difference between financing and leasing when it comes to the product delivered. Should I get a different car if I pay cash? Pay by credit card? No.

Like others in here said, a new car should have nothing aftermarket installed in it. Now, you have taken delivery of the car, so you're kinda "stuck" with this. Putting things in perspective, it's a relatively minor issue. So my advice is to remove the trim and follow the wiring and see if you can remove it yourself.... I'm sure they did not spend a lot of time/effort installing this in their stock cars, so i suspect it's relatively straight forward to remove it.

k i just came back from the dealer. this was not a dealer that i got the car from. i just asked a simple question because they had a tsx with the same shit in it. its an optional enhanced shock alarm system. it has a light on it on the front. dealer can activate it for an extra fee. since i said no thanks to that option at lease signing, they didnt activate mine....but i AM stuck with that little module drilled in my dash.

In most states a vehicle can be sold as new if it has never been registered with the DMV by an owner. So, you probably have no legal recourse. If your dealer bought it off another dealer then they might not have been aware of the after-market mod either.

I've bought many leases and as others have already noted, leasing applies to "new" vehicles. Since a demo is technically a new vehicle it could apply to those as well, as long as the lessor is satisfied with the mileage and condition.

so if the car came from another dealer, dealer A, but you bought from dealer B. and it wasnt ON dealer B lot so how did the part that dealer B installs, get installed on it.

I would be asking for it to be completely removed and all traces of it being installed removed.

if it is ever removed you will have a hole in the dash where it was mounted.

last thought.......if its such a SPECIAL SENSOR.......why would they install it if you MIGHT NOT buy it......unless it cost like a buck and they charge you $100 for the activation.

anyway......GL/

Maybe I misunderstood what's happening here. My thought was that dealer A originally had the car, installed the after-market item, put the 100 miles on it, then traded or sold it to dealer B, who didn't realize the gadget was installed (or didn't care and didn't disclose it) before cutting the lease deal.

Dealers do not install alarm systems for the sake of hoping the customer will purchase it. As ed_423 said its a tracking device. If I were you I would remove it compleatly from the car. None of big brothers bussiness where you go or where you are. JMO

dealer A had it. then dealer B had a customer that wanted IT. so dealer B called dealer A and said hey, well give u this blue tsx for the white tsx. Dealer A white ttsx drove 100 miles to get to dealer B. then i walked into dealer B and got the white tsx which was just driven all the way from dealer A. either dealer could have installed the device. i HIGHLY doubt its a tracking thing because they would have put it somewhere that no one could find it. like on the other side of the bottom dash plastic. its small. so im just gonna leave it and possibly activate it as the alarm. and it probably does cost 1 dollar but 100 dollars to activate. they probabbly shoved it on there to get people to pay extra...
