UC is more abrasive then M205 but less abrasive then M105. M105 I think would be too harsh for a newbie like me to use at first try. I heard UC is hard to screw up aswell. From meguiars: "Since UC is derived directly from M105 and uses essentially the same abrasive set, it can and will cut very quickly." SwirlX is also more abrasive then M205 iirc.
I found a 7424XP for $120. Think I'll get that and M105, UC, M205 and swirlx and experiment. Swirlx can be done by hand, so what pads are recommended for M105/M205 & UC? I think practice with swirlx and UC then move up to M105 if necessary.

Just get the harbor freight DA. it's like $50. Order an orange CCS pad also.
I found UC to be totally useless though but you could just try and see if it works for you

One thing about the 7424xp which is the main reason I'm looking at it is I heard if you press to hard or go over an uneven surface it'll automatically stop so you don't burn through your paint.
How hard is it to do this polishing stuff anyway? Is it easy for a newbie to screw up?

Nah it's really easy. Its pretty hard to burn your paint with a DA.

So I should buy this http://t.harborfreight.com/6-in-vari...her-69924.html instead of the 7424xp? After I use m105/m205/UC what should I finish with?

Use the speed 1 before the max speed, and make sure you don't leave the DA in one spot for a long period of time like op was alluding to.
VR1 I don't think you'll need to spend on all of those products. Just pick 2 of them and 2-3 different pads (1 milder pad for applying wax, not for cutting) and you'll be good. I recommend M105 over UC. Like iCrap, I've tried UC and it hasn't done much for me. I'm gonna try it out again over the weekend... but so far I'm not sold on it. M205 has been working wonders for me, and is more or less your "finishing" compound. Just apply wax/sealant after and you should be good. The plus about getting a DA is, you can get a very mild waxing pad and apply wax this way instead of by hand.
I've heard mixed reviews about the habour freight DA... but it's cheap, so you get what you pay for. I have the Griot's Garage 6" and it's pretty awesome.

Well, if somebody is THAT stupid then they kinda shouldn't be polishing their car
Itz JDM y0!
So M105 works well? Is it ok for a newbie to use or is it more difficult then say M205 or UC? After M105 should I use M205 or go directly to Wax?
Start with least aggressive and see what that does. If the results are not what you want, step it up.
I have not yet played with 105/205 combo, but if you have them both, I see no need to have UC and Swirl X in the mix. The results I have seen on others vehicles from just 105/205 seem pretty damn good.
I would recommend Lake Country 5.5" pads. Get a few orange and a few white. If you want to apply LSP using the DA, pick up a blue/red/gold pad with no cut.

Use the bumper plugs. They don't look great but aren't terrible. Check out MCyoung's car for good pictures of them. I got lucky and didn't have any holes drilled for my plate. But now I have a giant toe hitch dent there from some drunk chick.

Oh, then i'll find some plugs for that

I usually just go hoodless for max airflow.
Half of the plate when stock dipped down into the lower grille and I just moved it all the way down. I still have the upper grille + V6 fog vents for airflow which should be enough. I'm sure there is a small measurable difference under certain conditions but is it enough to make a difference in real world driving? I don't know. I haven't had any problems in the past few years in Texas heat.

I just put my plate in my front windshield.. dunno how strict they are about it here.
Luckily CEB doesn't troll around these parts or else I'm sure he would have plenty to say about this.

Yeah I highly, highly doubt that putting the plate on the lower grille will have any affect on the temps...
Some cars even have electronic seals that close the lower grilles at speed to increase MPG.
I found these btw

Yeah but those are way too expensive. I think I remember seeing someone in the 3G section who bought a ton of these and was selling for like $5/set. Also post in the facebook CU2 group since this is something that people probably have laying around.
TSX AMG Type //M i-VVT
Yea $30 or whatever seems like way too much... I'll pay like $10 at most. Ill keep searching. posted also in that group

Is M105 a lot harder to use then UC or M205? I heard M205 isn't that difficult since it has a longer buffing time, but I heard M105 will become hard to remove if you leave it on there for too long. I think I'll order some M105/M205 and Wax. I'll order some LC Orange & Yellow pads (I'll use yellow if Orange on M105 isn't aggressive enough), and white for M205. Then Yellow or Red for LSP Wax.
Also, if I order pads for the 7424/Harbor Freight polisher, can I just put them on directly or do I need to buy a new backing plate aswell for the new pads?

But your giving advice to a I 4 owner.
So its not apples to apples. Perhaps in your v6 model its fine.......but not everyone had a v6.
I suspect there is a reason the 6 has open fog vents and open grille.....COOLING. so the 4 has much less lower air THEN you want to block 90% of that.
Keep telling yourself it will be fine.
I'm out.

I got 5.5" pads so I got myself a 5" BP. Reason I went with 5.5" is that people don't recommend the large pads because they're harder to control, and it'll be harder to detail finer detail areas (like the scoop/groove under your door handles for example, the 6"+ pads won't fit under there).
I'm not sure what kind of BP comes with the PC or harbour freight DA, check that as well in case you buy something you don't actually need.

And then my passengers smudged the fuck out of my doors. Fuck people -_-
Anyway, I just got an Autogeek coupon. What stuff do you suggest for washing? Wash mit and some MF? I have some megs gold soap already.

I got my washmitt off amazon:
Get a grit guard, wash mitt, MFTs, and apply wax with your DA on a light pad. Wax won't just keep the shine... it should also protect your paint a bit. I hate driving others around too... -_-
I'm about 1/3 way done polishing the car now... what a difference lol
Hopefully your car is fine. Curb your wheels a bit more to motivate you into some new wheels

If you don't know it already, review the 2 bucket system if you wanna ensure you don't add scratches back onto your paint. Then you should be good to go
