2016 Accords vs 2nd Gen TSX
What are your thoughts on the mid model refresh accords? I was on here a while back asking for advice about the TSX. I love the look and ride of the tsx, but the lack of tech and the fact it has been discontinued left me hesitant. Also, I was waiting for the new accord refresh and the new malibu refresh.
So far, I like the improvements of the new accords, but its the same bulbous, big shape that doesn't look sporty at all. The TSX has that low, small, aggressive stance that I love. I like all the fancy features of the accord, but in the end, it drives like a family sedan. Yes, the v6 is nice, but it is out of my price range (brand new at least, and a used 9th gen before the refresh, again looks boring).
The coupes look nice, but I drive a 2 door now and hate it.
I've done my research and I believe I will eventually get a TSX and upgrade the base radio to a Pioneer AVH-NEX4100 to help alleviate the lack of tech. I just wanted to see what you all think about the 2016 Accords, and my idea of my upgrade to my potential TSX.

My neighbor just bought a new 2016 Accord Touring sedan. The exterior is very nice. Looks very premium especially from behind. More so than the TLX in my opinion.
However, it is what it is. A mid-size family sedan. So if your looking for a "sports sedan"... the Accord is not that.

To me the new Accord looks sportier than the outgoing TSX (esp in Sport trim obviously), and really they're both family sedans, neither is a sports sedan. So given the 2016 refresh, I'd say the Accord is the better choice, but of course a TSX can be had for cheaper, and you like what you like. If you want to know what people think about the 9GA's, just look at how often they are compared to/preferred over the TLX on the site. Pretty remarkable.

The 2G TSX is excellent, but a new Accord Sport is probably better in most ways. The fatter torque curve from the DI engine would be especially nice, and the new tech has its virtues. Ride/handling balance and chassis dynamics are the question marks for me, because IMO the TSX is simply outstanding in these respects for a family-sized FWD sedan. If the Accord Sport feels as sharp, but still delivers a decent ride, it would be the better choice IMO.

For me, this is what it boils down to.
If you want updated car with with the latest technology (big plus), and don't mind seeing cars that look exactly like yours all around your neighborhood(huge minus) get the Honda accord. If you want a car that looks very distinct, has really great handling, you will rarely see around your neighborhood, and don't care about it not having updated technology then get the the second generation TSX.
I would also consider a used TLX, especially if you are going for the higher end accords

Thanks for the replies. If the US sport came equipped like the CAN sport (apple car play, turn signal mirror led, moon roof, heated seats), there would be no contest and I would be driving one. However, the US sport lacks all of these features, but the older second gen TSX does not, and again me throwing in an aftermarket head unit will help upgrade it considerably. I don't drive MT either.
In the end I have time to car shop, but the one choice that stood out inside and out was the TSX, but those damn LED DRLs and what not make the accord nice. If the damn body wasn't so big and bulky.

I mean, my 13 tsx was parked next to the new 16 accord sports but man.... accord is different beast now!!
I don't know about spec but it looks amazing!!
But then again, i thought my tsx was very small but i thought the accord was slightly bigger...
also, 16 accord is a brand new car with everything new while the tsx is an old car... but i still love my car very much

The Accord in touring trim is head and shoulders above the TLX. Like 2012wagon, that's what I'd be driving if I didn't want the wagon.
The Accord is not your usual "family sedan" like the Camry or Malibu. It drives like a very capable sports sedan and for daily driving could put some pricier sedans to shame.

My parents bought a 2013 Honda accord and it's a good car but I hate that it has a CVT (no gears and no paddle shifters of course). I prefer driving the tsx much more because it feels sportier and the steering isn't so light like the honda accord!
#14
I was going to buy a 2013 Accord before I saw the TSX. Can't drive a CVT, don't care for the floaty handling, size, lack of steering feedback, and seats. If you want something more numb/comfier with more tech the Accord is better. If you're set on an Accord I would also look at the new Mazda 6 (I prefer the way these drive vs. Accord (feels really light/floaty to me)), or CPO Volvo S60.

While I'm not a fan of CVTs, they have improved immensely from the time of my DAF and the average driver would never know the difference.
The Variomatic in the DAF worked like a derailleur on a bike that is set a bit too loose when it shifts automatically going up hills.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll agree on the top of the line accord, but I don't feel comfortable spending upwards of 30g's on an accord. I can afford it, but I'd rather stick to the low 20's and have money to save, invest, and eventually buy a house.
No one hates the big body of the new accord?? TSX size would be perfect with an updated interior. Cant have it all though.

The audio in the tech is considered one of the best in a factory system - regardless of price and is certainly the best in this price range.
Everything is dead reliable and it is a fun drive - not go-kart fun but certainly more engaging than a Camry, Altima, Malibu or most any other mid-sized sedan

lol look at the facts.. The accord came out in '13, tsx in 09, different segments (size, Japanese entry level luxury), diff base price (more quality in the tsx). F the accord I'm already sick of driving that car, the tsx is way more involving and rewarding. Also the audio system in the 2013 ex-l SUCKS, the acura's is so much better. (even with this hack)

C/Net mostly liked the 2016 Accord, and remarked it has Acura DNA.
2016 Honda Accord EX-L review - CNET
It's modern and attractive, but I'm not a CVT fan. Another TSX Wagon here, and if I were in the market for a sedan, I would also consider the Mazda6.
The TSX sedan is based on the Euro-spec Accord, which is a smaller than the American Accord, but bigger than a Civic. The tech is old, but it also has old school goodness: dual exhausts, double wish-bones all around, good visibility. And as the the OP mentioned, you can always upgrade the head unit.
@Eggs999bacon, you seem to have your heart set on the TSX sedan! That it's discontinued doesn't mean you can't find parts for it; it's a Honda underneath afterall. And being discontinued makes the TSX -- well, not a rare car -- but certainly that much more distinctive.
Heh, but the TSX Wagon owners here; we own a rare car...almost as rare as the Acura NSX! Estimated sales of the NSX in the U.S. ~9,000. Estimated sales of the TSX Wagon: ~15,000.

Two white-driven by blonde 35-40 year old
One burgundy - driven by a 55+ woman
One black - driven by a mid 30s guy
Then at my sons school as I was getting out, guy says nice car. I am like wtf, I am not in my sports car, so I turn around and he has the exact color wagon as mine
As my son is getting out of school he starts walking towards the other wagon
So much for rarity lol

Thanks. I used to pretend I was driving an NSWagon, but you've killed my fantasy.
Actually, I have noticed 3 other TSX wagons around me, and I've seen a few more in NYC. As for the NSX, I've only seen 2 in the wild; one near me and once when I was visiting Hawaii.

Would you consider a 2016 Civic Touring?
Just one more thought... the new upcoming Civic is a bit larger than the outgoing Civic. Guess what... it's almost as large (wheelbase) as a TSX Sedan! It's too soon to judge driving dynamics, but Honda seems to be trying. I found these stats on Google:
2016 Honda Civic Touring Sedan
Compact car
Model: 2016 Honda Civic
MSRP: $26,500
MPG: 31 city / 42 highway
Horsepower: 174 HP
Engine: 1.5L 4-cylinder

Wheelbase: 106.3″
Cargo volume: 14.7 to 15.1 ft³
2009 Acura TSX Technology Package Automatic Sedan
Luxury vehicle

Horsepower: 201 HP
Towing capacity: 1,000 lbs

The ELS sound system in the tech package goes to 10 speakers and takes it to another level. Here's a review I found on Edmunds:

I have the base wagon which comes with what Acura calls "Premium Sound." It's not ELS, but it has 7 speakers that includes a sub-woofer in the back, and it's very good.

In an objective test (i.e. how close is it to "real"), the ELS system is clearly the best in this price range and one of the best factory systems period.

I like the looks of the new Accord, but the perfect configuration of that car doesn't exist of me. I don't like FWD V6s, and I don't like the lack of features on the MT models. That's why I ended up in a TSX in the first place, it's a prettier, slightly better performing 4cyl Accord with the bells and whistles I wanted (leather, heated seats, sunroof, good stereo, XM, etc.)
#34
With the new Civic out, you might want to wait until the ILX is updated, might be awhile tho.
#35
There are too many things you have to sacrifice, IMO, for the Accord Sport. No XM, no sunroof, no HIDs, no leather, crappy 4 speaker stereo, etc. Not for me, thanks.

She ended up buying a MT limited 2016 wrx
