2012 TSX or TL?

I'm looking at buying a 2012 TSX Tech or a 2012 TL Tech and I know this question has probably been asked a lot in the past, but my situation and needs it may be a bit different. We all know the spec differences between the two, but which one would you choose given the following factors:

- Price difference of $2000. I know the MSRP price difference is about $5000 (in Canada), but for a used 2012 the difference is only $2000 now so is it a no brainer to go with the TL?

- Will be used as a daily driver - mostly commuting 60 kms/37 miles per day. I'll obviously get better gas mileage on the TSX, but is the difference huge?

- Maintenance costs. Are ones costs higher than the other?

- Resale value in 5 years. I'll probably only have the car for maximum 5 years so I care about its resale value. Do you think the value for one will hold better than the other in the future?

I understand that the opinions here might be biased to TSX'ers, but I'd still appreciate any input from you guys!

the tl has a timing belt and the tsx has a timing chain. Depends on how many KMs/miles and the condition of the car in 5 years. My tsx has lots of miles so the value is low. test drive both, get prices, then you decide. You will be driving it

with a crappy tensioner.

Isn't the technology on the 12 TL more up-to-date? smart key?

Don't assume that the TL is automatically better because it is more expensive. I assume that you are comparing FWD to FWD. Here was my reasoning for not getting a TL.

Far worse curning circle
Worse gas mileage
No folding rear seat
Significantly larger outside with no real benefit inside.
Felt heavier to drive

Advantages of the TL

More/smoother power delivery
Smoother ride. More "big car" like. More isolated feel on the highway
A smidge more legroom
More toys - keyless start etc.

Gas mileage depends heavily on the type of commute. Are those 60kms mainly highway with steady speeds and no stops and starts or are they city and/or congested highway. If the kms are open highway then the difference is minimal, but city/congested driving takes a bigger hit on the TL than on the TSX - not that the TSX is very good in the city)

Never knew that, thanks!

Yeah, my first thought (and I'm sure everyone else's) is that the TL must be better since it costs more. The extra toys are nice to have in the TL, but I think I'd rather save the gas if it's a huge difference. Most of my driving will be in 60/40 (city/highway) so I guess the TL will be pretty bad for me... even if the price difference between the two is less than $2000 in 5 years, I guess I'd save more in gas than the amount of the difference drop.

Drive them both and see which one you like better. Then look at the differences in price and features.

You can search for one of my posts talking about why my sister traded her RL for a TSX instead of the new RLX or a TL - even though she went to the dealer intending to drive out in a RLX. it was based solely on driving characteristics and not money.

Thanks, I just did. I've driven both now and I'm pretty sure I'm going with the TSX. The size, 60/40 trunk and gas mileage are definitely a pro. The TL just felt too big and I don't think I need the extra power.

So now I have two choices:

- A 2012 tech in grey with 50,500 kms (31,000 miles) for $25,800
- A 2012 tech in silver with 27,900 kms (17,400 miles) for $26,300

Keep in mind I'm in Canada (hence, the pricing and kms). Both have no accidents and clean history. The Canadian black book (similar to KBB) price for the grey is $23,500 and the silvers is $25,220. I'm kinda torn, I prefer the grey color, but the silver is definitely the better deal.

What would you guys do?

I prefer the grey also, but I'd be hard-pressed to turn down that silver deal.

I had a white wagon and now have a gray wagon. I would have loved a silver wagon.

Silver is always clean - even when it is dirty.

Half the mileage (or half the kilometerage ) with the corresponding increase in warranty with a nominal difference in price makes this a no-brainer for me.

Let me be the first to welcome you and your silver TSX to the forum.

Yes I would go with the silver as it is a better deal imo, lower miles and longer warranty. Good luck with your decision.

Silver is always a safe bet. It is also the better deal.

Although grey is preeeetty sweet in my biased opinion.
