Integra Inspired? 2012 Acura TSX Special Edition Unveiled
Integra Inspired? 2012 Acura TSX Special Edition Unveiled
Want to order a manual transmission on a new Acura TSX? For 2012, to do so requires springing for the 2012 TSX Special Edition model shown here.
Allegedly inspired by “fun-to-drive four-cylinder Acuras of the past,” the new 2012 Special Edition includes a few cosmetic touches that set it apart from the remainder of the TSX lineup. Outside, Special Edition models receive a new front spoiler, a bespoke rear bumper fascia, new side sill trim, and unique badging. The twisted-spoke 17-inch aluminum wheels used are similar to those available on other TSX trims, but SE cars receive gray painted accents. Inside, Special Edition cars boast unique seating surfaces, which incorporate perforated suede inserts paired with bright red backing. A matching red hue is used for contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and shift knob, and for footwell, gauge, and mood lighting.
Given the inspiration for the Special Edition, we’re not shocked to hear the model is offered only with the TSX’s 201-hp, 2.4-liter DOHC I-4. We are, however, a little surprised to hear that availability of the 6-speed manual transmission – previously a no-cost option on all four-cylinder TSX sedans – will be restricted to the SE. That said, Acura officials don’t anticipate relegating the stick to the sport-inspired Special Edition will impact volumes of the manual-equipped TSX. For those who don’t enjoy rowing their own gears, a 5-speed automatic remains available on all 2012 TSX models, including the Special Edition.
Acura isn’t releasing specifics on pricing just yet, but we’re told the entire package should start just under $31,000. Buyers interested in adding navigation to the mix should note Acura’s Technology Package — which includes navigation — is not available on the Special Edition. Presently, there’s no word on if the Special Edition package – or the manual transmission option itself – will carry on beyond the 2012 model year. If you’re interested in picking one up while you can, head to your dealer shortly; cars should be arriving in showrooms by the end of September.

Acura has decided to spice up its entry-level TSX sedan, and this, the 2012 Special Edition, is the end result. No, there isn't any more power on tap, but some styling tweaks do give the TSX a sportier look. A more aggressive front spoiler and rear fascia lend an air of extra sportiness, and compliment the updated side sill. New 17-inch alloy wheels now feature a polished finish with a dark gray background.
Inside, Acura has pumped up the interior with black suede inserts on the seats that's contrasted by red stitching. More of the red color makes its way to the steering wheel and shift knob, as well as the lighting of the gauges, footwell and cabin. That footwell area also see the addition of aluminum pedal covers.
The automaker says that the TSX Special Edition was designed to "evoke the fun-to-drive 4-cylinder Acuras of the past," so the 2.4-liter inline-4is the only engine available. Both a 5-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission are available.
The 2012 Acura TSX Special Edition will make its debut at the Orange County Auto Show on September 22nd. That's approximately the same time it will arrive on dealer showrooms.
Acura Announces Special Edition Model for TSX Sports Sedan
Exterior and Interior Upgrades Make for an Even Sportier TSX
TORRANCE, Calif.– Continuing the celebration of its 25th anniversary, Acura today announced the availability of a new version of the popular TSX sports sedan for the 2012 model year. Designed to evoke the fun-to-drive 4-cylinder Acuras of the past, the TSX Special Edition will add even more sportiness to the TSX lineup thanks to numerous exterior and interior upgrades for Acura's entry-level sedan.
"The Acura TSX has long been known for its high-revving 4-cylinder engines and sporty driving nature," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "With the new Special Edition, the TSX becomes even more youthful and sporty in character, furthering its appeal to performance-minded buyers."
The 2012 TSX Special Edition package consists of numerous upgrades to the exterior including a more aggressive front spoiler, a new rear bumper fascia, unique side sills and an exclusive "Special Edition" badge on the trunklid. Finally, the TSX's 17x7.5-inch, 5-spoke aluminum wheels will feature a polished finish with dark grey background, unique to the Special Edition model.
Inside, the TSX Special Edition makes use of sport-minded appointments including exclusive seating surfaces with perforated black Lux Suede® inserts with red backing. Unique red stitching, used for the seats, steering wheel and the shift knob, combines with red lighting for the instrument cluster gauges, overhead lighting and footwell lighting. Adding more appeal to the driver's footwell are aluminum pedal covers with a race-inspired look. Rounding out the Special Edition's interior upgrades is the use of bright silver plating for the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters along with black headliner material (standard TSX have grey headliner material).
The TSX Special Edition package makes use of Acura's acclaimed K24 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and will be available with either the close-ratio 6-speed manual or Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic transmissions. The TSX Special Edition will go on sale in late September and will make its public debut at the Orange County International Auto Show on September 22nd.

Its nice, the only thing else I could have asked for was the "sport" suspension and 18 inch wheels. Tech would also have been a plus but there is no excuse to not have 18s.

Sorry to pop the balloon. I still like my 2011 V6 Tech with the 18" OEMs. The white stitching matches my Samsung phone carrying case... and NO-TECH????? For about $35K you get a V6 and Tech, with better exterior styling IMHO, for $4K more.
2012 will be the last year of the TSX. Japan Honda is cleaning the closets of the spare parts from 2007 to create a Special Edition.

Wow, so basically guys like ttk5 and defcon have been driving around their own "SEs" for the past few years, and I've been driving around half an SE (based on the "more aggressive" bumpers).

like a few people said, the package is about what I expected except maybe larger wheels and sport suspension. Personally, I like this car and these few add-ons might be enough to sway me to consider it as my next car. I wonder if it will be available in Canada?
Canada is running a HFP edition V6 black accord coupe (limited to 200) that includes 19" HFP wheels, suspension, aerokit, badging, and a few other bits. It will be about the same price.

Everyday I'm rofling
doesnt mention v6 anywhere in the article. to truly be more "sporty" a v6 option would be the best upgrade. the rims are even the same with just a slight gray shadow on them.

She said: it's GINORMOUS!
i can't believe this car doesn't get the tech pkge option, and the only way to get a manual is via SE, why?
i agree w/others this is just an acura inv clearance project...

I may be fat but I'm slow
Are there any changes to the 2012 "regular" (non-wagon, non-SE) TSX? Or are they identical to the 2011? Interested in the 5AT Tech sedan.

Guess I'll stick with either black or that pewter silver if I move forward. I'm with Civic2TSX; need the tech package.

I'm tryin to figure out if they'll offer it later in the MY. BUT I aint waiting till the middle of next year to get the tech pkg. Acura... you make me sad to not offer tech with the SE 6spd.
I agree since the same color for the '12 TL is called Bellanova White Pearl.
