2011 TSX Wagon to debut at New York Auto Show
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/08/2...ork-auto-show/
We knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when. Now, Acura has officially announced that it will be unveiling the 2011 TSX Sport Wagon at the New York Auto Show at the end of this month, with the first examples hitting dealerships in late fall.
In Acura's brief press release after the jump, the automaker mentions that the standard sedans make due with either a 201-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder or the recently introduced 280-hp, 3.5-liter V6, both of which are only available in front-wheel drive form. Unfortunately, Acura has yet to confirm which engine/drivetrain configuration will be available in the Sport Wagon, but we're holding a candle for the RDX's 240-hp, turbocharged 2.3-liter four pot and Acura's SH-AWD system. However, we have a sneaking suspicion that our (and your) preferred powertrain combo isn't a possibility, so that candle may burn our hands by the time the TSX Sport Wagon debuts in the Big Apple.

LMAO. That about covers it. If they did make it with a V6 SH-AWD 6MT. I would have one in my garage for sure. I may even accept an auto tranny with above mentioned goodies.

What? It's not going to be 2800lbs with a turbodiesel V6 (with VCM so it works like a 4-cylinder under light load), SH-AWD, and a 6-speed automated manual? I can't believe it! It's the worst car that ever had.

Ford Motor Co. agreed with China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. on most terms for a sale of the U.S. automaker's Volvo Car Corp. unit in the second quarter. A definitive agreement probably will be signed by March 31, with a sale completed by June 30, the companies said in statements today.

If they leased better I'd love to have a Volvo S80 V8 over a TL or TSX any day

That pretty much sums up Azines critisism of most Acura's these days.
Also add "What, no Hybrid!?" to the list

Yes, God-forbid Acura actually caters to the people that pay their bills.

^^ They've been chasing so many niches with so many model trims and we sell less product at lower margins than when it was just Integras and Legends, so, IMO, this strategy of trying to be 'everything to everyone' isn't working.

Yes but the problem is, what they think people want and what they ACTUALLY want seem to be quite different in numerous cases. Maybe Acura should take a step back and actually listen to the customers, and maybe then they would sell more models? Offering only one trim level on a niche car (and not a trim level most people wanted in the first place) and then being upset that it didn't sell well is pretty counterproductive IMO.

You want a SH-AWD V6 TSX available in every color and combo...AND you want it for 28K.

My point was w/ a model like this wagon, it's already targeting a certain demographic so why limit the choices to what they did, because they don't seem to be catering to THAT demographic at all w/ those choices? IMO it is almost being set up for failure...

We've had the Sport Wagon in the UK for a while now and it certainly looks alright, but the carrying capacity is limited by the styling.
The width in the back is compromised by the wheel wells. And because that (narrow) width is continued right to the back of the load area, the only real benefit over the 4 door version is better access afforded by the tailgate, and increased height due to the absence of a fixed rear shelf.
As an out-and-out load carrier, it's not ideal. But if you need to carry largish or odd shaped items from time to time, it's an ok choice.

Funky Chicken over at TOV is making some waves with his frank style, but he provides some additional insight into the order and manufacturing process for Acura.
I'll agree that we might sell a few 6mt wagons but from a business perspective I am personally better off if it is not offered at all. See if you can follow my logic here-
Let's assume they offer me 5 TSX Wagons in each monthly allocation. That would assume 60 units for the year, about 8% of our store's annual new car volume. The factory will likely constrain MTs at 20% so out of 5 cars I get to build ONE manual. If I don't have a presale order for a particular color/trim combo, how do you decide what to order? If I order a white, Murphy's law dictates that the only client who expresses interest in a 6MT will not consider white.
If I DO have a client who has put down a deposit on a particular MTOC (hondaspeak for model transmission option color) and I specify that color on my MOVE allocation the factory STILL won't build that car as a onesie-the way it works is that you have to have a minimum number of requests for that same MTOC to create a "batch" of cars that get built. As an example, right now RDX batches are in 7s-that means if someone comes in and orders an oddball like an RDX FWD Tech in Basque Red with a Black Interior and there aren't 6 other requests for the same combo during the same allocation period from 6 other Acura dealers the order is rejected and the client needs to wait another month to see if the order "takes".
That means I am dependent on 6 other people dreaming up that same car, being willing to commit to it despite not knowing when it might show up, and walking into any 6 Acura dealerships in the country with money in hand. Then I have to depend on those 6 sales managers to key in the order correctly during the same 3 day period.
How can I possibly make you, the customer, satisfied under those circumstances??? The fact is I CAN'T.
Unless Honda/Acura is willing to completely revamp their ordering process it simply does not favor the exception. That is why I feel I am better off without the 6MT-not because I don't want to satisfy the one-percenter but because the system is set up so that it really isn't possible for me to do so.

Its from the 2010 brochure. They might have changed it since the literature was printed. However, it doesn't really matter since so few people ask about MTs anyway. Heck, I had to go to look it up cause I didn't even know that colors for MT were constrained. Yes, that means that I haven't sold a single MT TSX this year or had a single inquiry about one.

Maybe you'd sell more if they brought back Milano Red. My current pet theory is that all of Acura's woes can be traced back to this.

LOL, you could be right! That and Vivid Blue Pearl! We sold far more MTs for the 1st gen. As the auto landscape evolves, MTs are getting left behind. LOL, look at Lamborghini, they took a cue from the TSX Wagon and have dropped the MT...

I was looking at RDX FWD EPA ratings. it is 19/24. but it is for 3750lbs tall car 240bhp/260 fl-lb torque is not bad figures from 2.3L.
C/D has got 21mpg fuel economy from RDX FWD with 0-60 @6.4 second.
RDX AWD is 4000lbs vehicle. with its taller stance & 18inchs quite similar to MDX. so why some one expect any different fuel economic.
for 3500lbs TSX/TSX wagon. the mileage will be closer to 20/28 EPA.
on freeway speeds. Aerodynamic drag of taller vehicles effect fuel consumption alot more.
I think this would have been more affordable option than V6. which does not necessary get better mileage but comes with higher price. sales of RDX have picked up. now TSX lacks SH-AWD and still cost as much as RDX.
