Wheel Delema (quick opinions greatly appreciated!)

I just just bought of ebay a set of SSR GT1's advertised as 18"x7.5" with a +45 offset now it turns out in finally get the wheels shipped to me they are beautiful but it turns out the offset is only +38

Now do I keep the 18"x7.5" +38 offset wheels and make them work? How big a difference does the 7mm make? or will they look completly ugly or rub and should I tell the guy he needs to take them back

Opinions please!! I am desperate! i dont know what to do.

Thanks,
Ben

Someone on the site said you can get the offset of a wheel changed at a machine shop. I guess they shave down the part of the wheel on the inside where the lug holes are which in turn doesn't make it stick out so far. Not sure how safe it is though. I was planning to check into it myself b/c I cannot find any wheels that I like and can afford to buy with a 45 or higher offset.

They would have to be very precise...VERY dangerous if even a mm is off. wobble wobble!

I wouldn't do it.

I had my current wheels brought from a +35 to +45, and had the center hub of my stockies boored out to fit my legend.
Most machine shops a pretty damn precise to begin with but it wont hurt to shop around.

That said, do what u can to return em but know that it's not ur last resort. GL

First off not all wheels have enough material to to safely remove it to the desired offset.

2nd id return them, that offset Will not work

You stated up above that you ordered a +45 offset. That in itself should be enough for you to warrant the return of those wheels. Your current offset is way too low especially with the 7.5 inch width.

Bro, were there any modifications needed in order to get a wheels with these specs to fit (Eg rolling fenders, cutting tabs, camber adjustments, etc...)? Also what tire size did you use? I know you have run some pretty unorthdox setups on your TL but can this be done with very little modifications to get them to fit without any rubbing?

Yes i can easily return these wheels my only problem is the wheels only come up about once every year or so, they are extremely rare and these are about the only rims in my price range i like on the market right now. After looking at the wheel it looks like through shaving about 4mm max safely could be removed, this would make the wheel a +42. That leaves the question, 18"x7.5" +42 fitment? what do you guys think?

On another note, does anyone know where to find ssr gt1 wheels?

+42 is too low. +45 is pushing it.

all i have to say is this 38 set up is on 7.5, the face part of the wheel is the same as 44 on a 8

people on here say 49-50 on a 8 is perfect....so is only 5mm off from acura-tl perfect fitment....

if you go look at a ruler to see how much 5mm really is, honestly is not a big deal to me....

in regards to offset and rubbing, it is commonly accepted that wider wheels require higher offsets because they stick out more, but technically if we are all using 225 width tires all tires will stick out to the same point regardless of the width of the wheel. Would this not suggest that if you are using the same width tire, that the width of the wheel is irrelevant, therefore suggesting the wider wheels dont really need higher offsets?

But we are all running on -55 offset stock rims... if you had a aftermarket rim with a 55 offset you could smack a huge tire on it, but in the case with most aftermarket rims is the not all rims come with that offset, making the tire size significantly important when deciding on the rim.

there is a great set of imitation GT1's on wheelmax under the company Excel... the wheels are identical except the excel ones have bolts aroung the lip, oh and the excels are a third the cost of the SSR's, however the SSR are the ones I'd get if I had the money
