Tein basic ?????
Tein basic ?????
im lookin to keep stock or somewhat stock height during the week then lower for the weeken so im looking at coil overs. the question is with the basics is it going to lower the car 2.1f 1.7r even if there turned all the way up????
I believe that if they're all the way up, it's still lowered around 1.5 inches around. Our cars sit super fugly high at stock height. Why are you looking to swap heights every weekend? That's a lot of work!.. at least it would be for me.
What do you need to adjust the coilovers so much for? Is it for anesthetic reasons, like looking good when you drive around on the weekends or do you track your car?
I mean if you are trying to look good the air ride I think is the way to go. I say this for several reason, any please, I am not flaming to any degree, all I am trying to do is point out the pros and cons of either situation.
*I am going to assume you haven't purchased a suspension yet and you are still able to make a decision between the 2 choices k?*
Coilovers
Pros-
1. Adjustable Height and Damping (usually available with most setups.)
2. Cool colors, like Tein Green, lol and you get an awesome sticker, but you could just buy that off Ebay too!
3. Coilovers would give you a responsive feel in regards to the road. You really won't feel like you are floating like most air rides will give you.
Cons-
1. Adjustable Height and Damping, unless you are Superman or have help, the height adjustment can take an experienced person about 20-30 minutes at minimum.
2. I have heard of some people stripping out their bolts on where they adjust the damping.
3. I really don't know if this is a possibility but if you think about this.... IF you are using wrenches to adjust the height up and down, and they are not done carefully enough over a period of time (sloppiness or you are in a hurry) then you could end up wearing out the points the wrenches go in. At this point you would be screwed and would have to buy another coilover setup if you still wanted to go that route.
4. Adjustment Heights.... coilovers are NOT all created user friendly... some coilovers just have threads that have to be counted, so if you have a cross-eyed friend helping you, well... your car may look straight to him, but to everyone else you might look like you have an air ride already. lol
Air ride
Pros
1. Adjustable height at the touch of a switch or control.
2. You look darn sick with it dropped at low as it can go.
3. The convenience of not trying to adjust you suspension every week/weekend.
Cons
1. Price, I do not there there can be a system had for less than $2,000.00 new.
2. Leaks car occur and can be costly to diagnose if the problem is not known, and this can also be costly as well.
3. Replacement parts can also be expensive.
4. You will have to have an air compressor in the car, which will take up space. Could take away a passenger seat, why people put it in the back seat of a car and lose a seat is beyond me, but some people do it anyways. Some if not most people put it in the trunk, which might be an inconvenience if you have subs or something back there already.
5. The overall ride may not be as good/responsive as a coilover setup in regard to track us, if that is what you are doing on the weekends?
Here is a quote from someone who has had/is now selling his air ride setup.
vzuptnguyen @ v6performance.net
Also, let us take into account May through August as a time frame where you will adjust the coilovers, 4 weeks each month, and 2 adjustments per week. One for the week and one for the weekend.
At minimum you are doing about 8 adjustments per month and times that by 4 months equals = 32 adjustments you have done over a course of a summer +/- a few. That's a lot of work my friend, but to each their own.
vzuptnguyen, is selling his air ride on v6performance.net for around 1,900 or so with a complete digital adjustment tool. The digital adjustment tool remembers your settings so that you can go back to the exact height and stiffness you had when you programed the tool. If you didn't have that then you would have to fiddle with switches would IMO probably could get as tedious as adjusting coilovers. His kit is also coming off a 2nd Gen TL too.
duRritztiNy, is selling his air ride for 900 on V6performance.net. His kit is universal from what I understand but will work for any Accord or TL chassis.
So the break down of costs:
Used Air Ride setups
1,900 with Digital Adjustment
900 w/out Digital Adjustment
*I don't know the total cost but I estimate the figure to be at least 2,000.00 at minimum or more for a new setup.*
Coilovers
Used
400 on the low, low, low, low, low end
I got my Apexi WS Coilovers for 450.00, so you can find good deals, you just have to be patience.
And new setups can run you about 1,000.00 or more especially with a Tein setup with full EDFC adjustability.
The rim and tire setup will also play in as far as how you car will ride too, so don't go too big unless you want to end up like a wheel whore like jjashaa..... lol
mikey3.2, has an air ride setup on his TL with 20 inch rims, you may want to send him a PM or hopefully he will chime in here so that you can get an idea of what an air ride will run and the headaches you should be prepared for. I hope this helps to put things into perspective. Sorry for the long post, I guess I got carried away?

As for the ride, it all depends on your settings. You must also remember your tires play a HUGE factor on ride comfort. The suspension can be set to a "Cadillac-like" ride or a very stiff sports suspension. You will get use to both strut adjustment and air pressure adjustment pretty quick. I can set it at a stiff setting and i will take a turn quick and there will almost be no body roll. I can set it at a soft setting and I can drive over hills and the car will float.

Although he had some issues here, vzuptnguyen's a good guy. He would probably go down on the price if you offered him something reasonable - IF you were interested that is.
im in the construction field as a crane operator and in MN so i would like to stay some what stock height for the work week then get the style and looks for the weeken. air ride is a bit much for me and seeing that the coil overs are a bitch i might just go with a coil set up. im really just trying to get rid of the wheel gap to make the car a bit more sporty but yet still driveable year round mind you that we get snow here. thank you for doing that write up tho it helped alot
