Summer Tires for TL-S

I have stock Michelin tires that are almost done. Please tell me what you have or recommend that is just as good or better that you have for a TL-S.

Thanks

Might want to give us a budget number to work with. There are tons of better tires than the shitty Michelins.

I'm running Dunlop SP9090s. OEM tires for the Porsche 911.

Problem is, fsttyms1, F1s don't come in 215/50/17 stock size. Check and see what Tirerack has in stock:

Avon Tech M500
BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2
Bridgestone Expedia S-01
Dunlop Direzza DZ101
Dunlop SP Sport FM901
Firestone Firehawk SZ50
Kumho ECSTA SPT**
Yokohama AVS ES100
Kumho ECSTA 711
Dunlop SP Sport 9000
Falken Azenis ST-115
Fuzion ZRi**
Hankook Ventus Sport K104
Kumho Ecsta MX (KU15)
Michelin Pilot® Exalto® PE2
Michelin Pilot® Primacy
Toyo Proxes T1R

Note: ** these tires meet or exceed OEM load rating of 93XL. Some tires I listed above I found on a Canadian tire site (1010tires.com) so I don't know if they are available in the US. Personally, I would look at Toyo tires, since I have only had good experience with them on my cars in the past. Good price / performance / reliability. I've also had good experience with Kumho tires (ASX) on my parent's Volvo.

I'm running on Falken Zein ZE-512...i think they're really good tires. They're all season tires but perform like summer tires. I got mine from ebay for 320 shipped...it was free shipping in the 48 states only. I think he lowered his price to 305. Here's the link to his auction if you want to check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Problem with a 225 width tire ... some places won't mount them on OEM 6.5" rims. However, I do see a 205/50/17 93XL rated tire, which would be OK.

Ive never in the 5+ years of running a 225 on my rims had a problem with someone not wanting to mount them for me. Hell there are even members with 235 on the stock wheels.

Im rolling on Fuzion ZRI's for about 30k miles now. They are a phenominal performance tire but are too rough and noisy for my tastes and take a bit to warm up. I dont think I have ever heard them squeel - and I have taken some steep, fast turns with them.
But you sacrifice ride comfort and some noise (especially after they start to wear on you)
Good bang for the buck.
However I am now looking for something quieter and more comfortable myself and am willing to go up to a 225 55R17 if I have to (anyone tried Goodyear Comfortread?)
I am willing to give up performance for some smoothness and quiet. Also help get my gas milage back up. As soon as I put my Fuzions on, I noticed a 2-4 mpg decrease (at various tire pressures 32 to 40 psi)

DO NOT use a 225/55/17 on our cars. Diameter Difference: 4.79%. Your ABS might be messed up. Go something closer to 215/50/17 in circumference, such as 225/50/17 or even 225/45/17 (both have a variance +/- 2%, which is OK). I don't know if the Comfortred come in those sizes or not ... but I heard good things about them.

ABS could care less if the tires are larger or smaller in diameter than stock. However, the speedometer will be affected.

Very true. ABS doesn't care - it just looks for a wheel not spinning while the others are and pulsates the brakes if that is true.

VSA "might" care since it will think the car is going slower than it actually is and that may affect its "scheduling" (based on how fast, the steering wheel position and the lateral accelerometers' rates the VSA then applies braking as needed, where needed) But a 5% difference equates to 60MPH on the speedo = 63 on the highway.
40 reading = 42 mph on the highway
70 = 73.5
80 = 84

Not that drastic.

You can get those numbers running your tires at a lower or higher PSI (truer for the 16" rim guys)

So other than potential rubbing, im not concerned.

a bfg drag radial what are you looking for? something just for that? or do you want a high performance tire for the street also?? The tl isnt a tire shredding monster so i wouldnt worry a whole lot on a tire thats the best off the line where it may sacrafice something else in performance.

The F1 GS-D3 and the T1-R are great tires off the line

kumho ECSTA's arent bad. my friend is running them on his BMW 540i. i previously had kumho ecsta 711 and they gripped the road pretty good and they were good in rain. however, i do think they were a little noisy. i just got 225/50 yoko avid v4s and so far, they pretty good. definitely quieter than the kumho's since i can hardly hear any of the road. for the first time in a while, the cabin was really quiet when driving. plus, the ride is cushy and smoothe. not harsh at all. HOWEVER, i just got them put on so i do need more time in my car to evaluate properly.
