Rubbing Problem???

What would cause this problem? When I take a right hand turn, I hear a rubbing sound coming from the back tires. It only happens when I have a few people in the car or when I take the turn at high speeds. If I take the turn at normal speeds with no one else in the car, and if it is not a really sharp turn, then there is not rubbing. I am pretty sure that it is the left rear tire. There are no problems when I take a left hand turn. The first time I noticed it was about 3 weeks ago when I had a full car and I just put my rims on and took a right turn. The rims are 18x7.5 with a +48 offset. After lowering my car (w/ Tein High Tech) about 2 weeks I still noticed the rubbing but it didn’t get any worse. What would be causing this problem since it only happens when turning right? Thanks

Trim the rear bumper tabs and try again. If you're lucky, you probably can get away from rolling fenders.

roll the fenders..

This looks like a simple case of too low with larger wheels and the combination will cause rubbing. If this continues and severe enough, it can damage your tires.. The best way to fix it is have the fenders rolled by someone who knows how to roll fenders. This is basically pulling your fenders so you will have more room for the tires. Make sure your struts are set to its firmest setting, this might be the best way to resolve your issue.

What size tires do you have? And are you positive that your wheels are +48 offset?

the tires are 225/40/18, and i'm pretty sure they are a +48 offset. If they weren't, I would think I would have more rubbing on the other tires and rims also, right? When I brought them, they were listed at +48 offset and that was the only offset listed for these rims.

And the ride will be rough like hell. No one would ever want to sit at the back of the car.

Can you see which tire is rubbing? When I had 3 in the back, I knew the rear driver's side tire rubbed due to it literally stripping away a part of the tire! I hope now that I have new shocks / springs, that won't be happening anymore!

I telling you..

If you look at your tire I bet it has rub marks from rubbing the plastic liner. Do not feel sacre to roll the fenders, it pretty easy and noone can tell the difference. Go to the place where you got the wheels or where they were installed and the guy will look at it and roll it with in minutes.. MOst likely he will take a round bar and pull it pit by rollong it to get an even distribution in force.

If part of the tire is stripped away, the tires are likely to be rubbing against the metal fender. My rear tires were also scrapping the metal fender, but just by a fraction of a mm when the tires were new. I could see flakes of rubber shaving on the shoulder of the new tires. Now that the fraction of a mm of rubber has been shaved off, I don't have any more rubbing happening.

If a large chunk of your tires is strip away, it looks like you have a more serious wheel offset problem. New shocks/springs won't help here, because the lowering springs will lower the fender even more closer to the tires. Rolling the fender may be the only solution, or new wheels.

I have a "?". I have rubbing on mine, but it is on top of my tire. Since mine rub also when it turns, but my tires stick out some.

Now my struts are OEM and so is my suspension. Which the gap between my tire and finder is about 3"+. I am still gettin some tire run.

My sturts have over 124,000 miles on them.

Now do you think IF I get new struts I will not get any more rubbing on the rear tires??
(As I said the rubbing on mine is on the top of the tire.

Here is the clearance I got from the finder to tire travel:

And here is the off set (sticks out)

+++ Actually if you look at the ABOVE pic you can see where its running the tire .

Thanks 4 any help all.

i agree with redlinen, those wheels are not for your car, you kinda got the trans am redneck thing goin. your wheels should be inside your fenders or right at the fender. yours look to be a good 1" to 1.5" out.
