Offset & Wheel size question
Offset & Wheel size question
In the sticky FAQ: wheel rim size "will they fit?" post at the top of this forum, the moderator Derrick states that our TL/TLS came generally came stock with 6.5" wide rims with +55 offset.
He then lists proper offset for wider rim options:
7" wide rims = +42 offset
7.5" rims = + 45 offset
8" wide rims = + 48 offset
So the whole list would look like this:
6.5" rims = +55 offset
7.0" rims = + 42 offset
7.5" rims = +45 offset
8.0" rims = + 48 offset
I'm not arguing with Derrick, because I don't know, but is this correct??
How can it go from +55 offset on 6.5" rims, then drop to +42 offset on 7.0" wheel, then start getting larger again, ie: +45 offset on 7.5" & +48 on 8.0"
Seems like the 6.5" rim should have less offset than the wider ones, not more.
Is it something about the rim diameter I'm not getting? ie: 17" rims, 18" rims, 19" rims??

The higher offset as the rim width increases is there to balance out the increase in width, so the wheel sits flush to the edge of your fenders.
Essentially what derrick said is accurate based on owner experiences.
If I may ask: would using 10 mm spacers with a 7.5 wheel (52+ offset) cause rubbing? I'm running 225/40 tires.

I agree, what Derrick posted was the min offset without having to do any fender work based on owners experience. (i am also a firm believer that the 02-03 has a slightly larger front fender flare to accommodate a slightly lower offset rim over the 99-01)
You would be roughly a +42 then which would be close, you would probably have to trim your rear bumper tabs.
