Need great riding and performing all-season tires for an 02 Type-S

To all my friends (obscure Mickey Rourke "Barfly" reference),

I'm looking to replace my Michelin Pilot's with different tires but in this economy I'm not in a position to pay anything close to $180 per tire again. I'm looking for an all-season tire that performs well, is relatively quiet on the road and has a price I can stomach.

Anyone with a great experience with their all-weather tires on a 2002 Type-S? I've heard decent things about the Yokohama YK520's and the Yokohama AVID V4S.

I live in Chicago. Unfortunately, I can't afford to have have a set of winter tires and a set of all-weather tires so my compromise is one set of all-weather tires.

Help, dudes.

Thanks

The Yokhama YK520's are great. I've had them for about 300 miles. Just read the reviews, they speak for themselves. I think there's even some opinions here on azine. I remember finding out about them here when I needed new tires.

Thanks, man. I'll check out the reviews. What kind of price neighborhood are we talking?

I paid about $600 for all 4 installed, but that was for 18". If you have the stock wheels, it'll be around $450 probabaly.

EDIT: You could also look into General Exclaim UHP, those were my second choice. They're less expensive, still a great tire though.

I am on the general Exclaims in California- where we get hard rain downpours, and can visit small amounts of snow when desired~
The tires are amazing-especially for their price- rated #1 in summer performance catagory by tirerack.com BUT tire carries the standard M&S rating for all weather useage
based on its advanced micro tread design features- it gets rid of water fast!!
Dry pavement- they think they are track day tires- push them as hard as you want
Wet pavement, they have a AA wet brake rating- thats the highest, most tires are single A rating
the Goodyear F1 is AA wet braking too
check out tirerack for reviews and suggestions for your car, print out prices and take to your local tire stores to meet or beat- and get their suggestions based on local conditions

I recall a positive review by someone in chicago using them all year long

Anyone have experience with the "Sumitomo HTR+" or "Yokohama AVID V4S" (mentioned by the OP) tires?

Sumitomo HTR+ are the best bang for your buck. They're fairly cheap, but outperform some of the more expensive brands/models.

Too bad they don't have stock size (sold out?) - the Michelin Pilot Sport AS (completely different tire than the OE Michelin) are on close out for ~$100/$110 a peice. At that price they are unbeatable.

I know a number of users like the General Exclaim UHP on the 3G too.

Thanks guys. Cheap = good. Expensive = overpriced. I guess I'll be ordering a Sumitomo tire but I still don't know if one new tire will throw off 3 old ones.

Generally, you should never change just 1. If you have the need, try for at least 2.

Of course, the "best" is to buy a set of 4 everytime, but I know how hard that can be.

Thanks, since this is a safety issue I guess I can grab two. Just feels like I'm throwing a good tire away, which to me is essentially wasting money, and that's something I really dislike doing no matter what it is.
