My Function and Forms, very uncomfortable, help fix.

So I slammed my car with FF type 1. Its very uncomfortable and stiff. Like Henry's weren't as uncomfortable as mine. And I just got my friends FF type 1 on his 3g tl-s and it feels almost stock.

For the preloads, does the springs need to be compressed to make it stiffer, or could I have accidentally moved the 2 perches up, when I was lowering the car.

All my friends with FF type 1 say the ride is very nice, but my front bounces up and down so much, its impossible to drink anything without a straw. Does being too low make the ride bouncier?

HELP PLZ to make more comfortable. I like the stiff ride sometimes, but could be annoying for other people.

How do I move the preloads back to the orginal setting. Is there like a measurement of where the perches sit that make so i can know how much to bring it back too?

Lol so weird. Raised it 2cm and the drive was like how functions supposed to feel, but was way too high for me so went down 1cm and it was a little bouncy. Anybody have that problem, where the lower you went on FF type 1, the bouncier it got?

Because i want to go lower than I was before but the bounciness would be way too unbearable.

Yup haha, I don't adjust it from taking off the bottom bolt and twisting it up. I dont know why but the 2 perches were so stuck on together that sprays of WD-40 wouldnt help loosen it. When I have time Ill just take the whole thing out and redo the preload that way.

Swllen and 02type-s, you both are pretty low, can you tell me how much thread you got left in the front and back? Cuz i was at 6cm left in the front and 4.5cm left in the rear. And it was bouncing like crazy, but I would love to go lower.

I didnt have the coils for that long. probably like 3, 4 months max.

Truth.

I was gonna say, my K-Sports were hella bouncy for about 2 weeks, then they got better. But if you messed with the spring perches, thats the majority of your problem.

I actually raised my front up 0.5" and rear up 0.25" cause I was tearing up my front lip with the bad streets around here..

6 cm in front is extremely slammed if i remember correctly.. Do you have a pic of what your stance is like?

Yeah 6cm in front, I got a lot of slammed comments Lol.

Ill post a pic later today, but my stance isnt very clean cuz my +32 offset in the rear is still not enough to flush it completely on the fender, but then again its pretty hard to make a lower offset fit at this height. Im just running natural camber, but im happy with it, looks nice from the front and ass.

I keep looking at my car and ima drop it back down, once you go 6cm you cant go back, gotta go lower. The ride at 7cm is pretty good, but when I see my car parked, 7cm is way too high to match the rear.

I am actually on the same boat as you are. My ride is bouncy and from the questions I asked everyone and from the response I got back from FF I adjusted it correctly.
I am going to raise it a bit up front cuz its lower than the rear, maybe that has something to do with it.

Yeah I thought maybe cuz my rear are lower and the front a little higher, the front has more room to bounce with all the weight in the back. But I wont really know until i take it out and reset the preloads.

Your pre-loads are jacked up, I'm fairly low and my ride is still very comfortable, I didn't touch the pre-loads at all either, I just adjusted the shock body.

I dont believe I touched the pre load my self but I guess I must have.

Yeah the front is the part for me that bounces to much, way to soft. I plan on playing with the front first and see if it does anything.

Only problem is, I dont know how much to adjust.

Hopefully someone can input on our issue?

Do you know how many cm you got left on your coils. Just curious what others' comfort levels are with their height.

i don't think its a matter of how many cm / inch is left on the shock body to spring perch..

it has to be your preloads.. you guys never had a independent spring shock coilover so you guys probably won't know..

but if its really stiff and bouncy.. its most likely that you have zero to minimal shock travel and lowered the coils by the springs on accident.. if its just bouncy bouncy.. you raised it by the spring..

i suggest you raise the spring height to fix your preload settings and make sure they are tight.

So i just spent my saturday morning taking out my coils and adjusting the preload back to the manufacturer settings following the steps from Function http://vimeo.com/26181662. Then i dropped it some more, and its still bouncy. 5.5 cm left on the thread.

What? No way man, that sucks. So what does that mean?

I plan on doing the same thing, I hope it works for me. This means that I have to remove them completely from the car? Ahhhhhh

No you dont have too but i tried with it on and couldnt get a good enough grip to loosen it. And I think the preloading it make to factopry settings would be much easier with it off! So take it!!1

So I just messed with the preload and got it back to factory settings. Wasn't to off, but the little adjustment I did made a big difference. No more bouncy and rides smooth.
I only did the fronts and will do the rear when I get a chance, I assume they are out of spec too.

Well how low are you? Being really low is not going to be very comfortable at all.

Anything passed 3 inch drop and your ride will suffer.. Just my experience..

Well my exhaust pipe in the back sits 1 cm off the ground with no one in the car, and when I gas to like 4000 rpm, sparks fly! yay.

I want to make the preloads stiffer since my resetting to factory preload didn't help me much, hmm maybe it is cuz my cars too low. But I wanna make it stiffer because I rather have stiff ride than a bouncy ride.

Anybody know how much more to tighten the preloads? Since factory preload is 5mm from free spring, how many mm would I need to go to make it stiff.

Im going to do it on the weekend when i have time to take off the fronts again. but i dont know how much to move it up. Im looking for the stiffness to be (20 to 36) or (10 to 16) on coils with adjustable dampers, I shouldve got dampers cuz i love stiff and I really need it. But moving the preloads up could work for now

So how much should i move it up.

I did not have to remove the coils, its do able while on the car.

The length of the spring that I am set at right now is 7.5 inches, i think thats 190 mm. They say that 195 is what factory setting is.

This is provided that I measured correctly.

Wow that 5mm more to 190mm is much more practical slammed. I wonder if anyone went further up.

yea i think your pre load is messed up and maybe you have blown your shocks but if any thing you should try raise up your pre load. i have F&F type 1 and my frame is on the ground and still ride good, i lower it by the shock body not the pre load
