2004 TL Rims on 03 TL-P?

I just bought a set of 04 TL rims w/ tires for my 03 TL.
17's with 235/45/17 "Ling Long" tires.
The ride is loud as shit now, and the driveability isn't as fun. Although cornering is a lot more stable, the car feels weighed down on acceleration. My TL feels like a tank. Would this problem be solved if I threw on a set of Michelin's?

I was wondering if anyone can explain to me what this will do performance wise, theoretically.

Does any one know the weight difference between 04 17's and 03 16's?
The offset may be a little higher than what I want because the tires stick out just a little bit.

I've read on the forums that 2G TLs can fit up to 8" wide rims without any problems, but I'm worried that these heavier rims are putting too much stress on my steering system. My Rack already seems to be going because when I am parked and when I turn the wheel left to right there is a "click", "click" noise as if the rack is going bad/loose.

There must be a reason why 03 TL Type S's are engineered to fit 215/50/17's with a 7 inch rim.. I just can't figure out what the best option for rims are for my car. I don't wanna end up destroying my steering and suspension.

Would 225/50/17's be a better tire option for the 04 rims as opposed to the stock 235/45/17 size? I don't know, I just wanted to know what the rest of y'all think?

Maybe I should just sell the 04 rims and stick with something smaller?

Thanks

i have 3G wheels too and i personally love them. i do not have the same "click" noise you are experiencing but i am running 225/45 R17 tires. Our stock wheels are 17x6.5 which is awful

Best option = sell those 3g 17's and get the 2g TL-S or CL-S rims By the way, Michellins are way to expensive in my opinion but thats up to you. I find the Yoko's soft enough already compared to the continentals that I use to have.

Thanks men for your input, but I was looking for a different answer..

Would the Added Weight of a heavier rim change the Power Curve to the Left?

With the Added Weight, would there be more Initial Torque needed to get the car moving?

or are these changes insignificant?

and with the change from 16" to 17", would the bigger diameter rim cause the wheel to spin more freely (aggressively) because of the wider arc that the edge of the rim travels?

Ha ha, sorry if these questions are too provoking of the mind, but it's been bothering me.. wondering about the physics of it all.

I noticed that the manufacturers are all putting lower profile tires and wider rims on their vehicles.. What constitutes too wide of a rim or tire? and How low of a profile would cause too much of a harsh ride? Basically... WHAT IS JUST RIGHT? NOT TOO HOT, NOT TOO COLD- WHAT IS PERFECT?

The reason why I would like to know, is because I don't want to compromise performance or the luxury of a smooth ride just for looks.

What do you think the best option is for a guy that drives faster than most average people? Not to be cocky, but I just don't want something like rims slowing me down.

Would Lighter Weight Racing Rims be a better option?
7" wide? 7.5" or 8"?
How are the Ron Jons? Are they lighter than Stock 16's?
How much heavier are the 17" over the 16's?
Doesn't 235mm Wide Tires make your TL feel like a Suburban?
Would the drop to 225mm Wide tires feel any different?

Come on men, Let's put our Brains together- There's gotta be a correct answer.

I like the 40 profile anything lower then that on a seventeen inch rims seems harsh to me. I like the 235 in the rear and 225 in the front just because it gives the car the aggressive stance. And i did have 235 in the front for awhile it rubbed when you had the wheel all the way turned and my car is lowered 1.8 front 1.5 rear.

i dont think you're gonna find wheel weight slowin u down too much. maybe .05 second in the quarter mile? the difference between wheels usually comes in less than 10 pounds, usually 5 for regular wheels as opposed to sportier ones. then it's 20 pounds for all 4, it's like you puttin a few grocery bags in the back, shouldnt matter too much. but there could be a difference since the weight is at the rotation location (that sounded cool) so maybe more torque is needed, either way im pretty sure it's negligible.

as for the tires, i think low profiles just look better than a truck tire. but having more meat on your tire is definitely a good thing. especially when the profile is so low, hitting a pothole might damage your rim

Do a search. There are plenty of pics with the TL with 3g wheels. IMHO they arent the correct offset and size and other rims should be looked at

Exactly what I wanted to know, fsttyms1. Thanks. So in conclusion, 3G TL Rims are the wrong offset for 2G TLs, thus accelerating the wear and tear of the trans, drive train, and Suspension.

I've read your sticky on correct offsets for the 2G TL but I had such a hard time finding the offset for the 3G TL rims so I had to do a post. I was hoping you would respond because you seem knowledgable. Are you an automotive engineer or mechanic? or just a car enthusiast that knows his shit? Ha

Its not so much you are putting wear and tear on the drivetrain, and suspension, its that they dont fit the car correctly, and in many cases cause the tires to rub on the car (not to mention dont look right on the car) Many members have 3G wheels on their car, some like the look of it most dont.
