Yet another weird sound question...

I know these are probably the toughest questions without actually being able to hear the sound. But here it goes.

My 2000 TL just started making a low murmur or rrrrr-rrrrr-rrrrr sound when accelerating. The sound is directly related to how fast the car is moving sort
of like when a rock is stuck in the tread but the sound is very different and is
coming from what seems like the center of the lower engine area. The sound
does not occur with the car in neutral -- only in drive. Someone suggested
I check the CV boots on the wheels. I felt around and didn't feel any cracks
and picked up no grease so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Any other ideas what it might be? What can I look for? My car is no longer
under warranty so if I bring it into the delearship does anyone know how
much they would charge to diagnose the problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, the noise is there at constant speed. It doesn't seem to get any worse on turns. If anything I want to say it goes away during turns but I'm not a 100% positive on that.

Also it seems most noticeable at the 10-20mph. I'm sure it's still there at the
higher speeds but the engine noise probably covers it and the freqency of
the noise is much higher die to the higher speeds.

Thanks for the responses. I just got back from a long trip and that's the reason for the late reply. After a visit to a tire place and the dealer that's the conclusion they came up with also. All of which cost me nothing so it's all good. The tire place said it could be several things and they didn't want to start trying things that may in the end be wrong. Long story short is that I was told that it was the wheel bearings and outside of making noise there would be no further damage by driving on it. That's all I needed to hear. I just didn't want to get stuck far from home with a broken car.

Thanks again for the replies.
