Yet another Transmission Question...

So I have read/skimmed the six thousand posts on transmission failures and have not really run in to my problem. I have heard of people with leaks in their trannies, but here's what mine did. I have an 03 Type S, 128K, never had an odd shift, never a slip, never an odd noise, and before I bought the car I had the local Acura dealer run the VIN. They told me it was a later VIN that would not have the tranny problems, and would not be covered under their extended warranty deal (which unfortunately I'm out of due to mileage anyway).

I was accellerating up a hill on the highway going 75-80 and the transmission shifted down to what seemed like 3rd cause it shot up to redline and I let off the gas real quick. When I tried to resume on the gas, I had no transmission and my Check Engine light was on (also think my VSA was on too). So I pulled over to realize I was smoking and apparently lost all my tranny fluid, or that's what it seemed to be, came from the front drivers side. Is it possible the whole tranny is not totally gone and it's just a seal that can be placed, or is it pretty much done regardless? Crappiest thing is that I had looked at a couple trucks and was going to take the weekend to decide which to trade it in on...guess neither now. Any help (and news other than dude it's done) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
