What are warning signs that the timing belt is going?
I'm hearing something like a whining/whistling sound coming from the right side engine bay. The car would be running for about 5-10 min then you start to hear that sound. I have never replaced the timing belt in the car and the car has 87,000. I'ts a 99TL. Can you fellas give me some input here, thanks.
That's probably your power stearing pump. Check the fluid level in it.
There are no warning signs of a timing belt going other then the damage that occurs after it snaps, but at 87k you still have time left before you should replace it.

Replace it at 90K, its gonna cost you $700 for the water pump and timing belt, the labor is what costs $$. If it goes out, your engine will cut out, DO NOT try to restart it. I had a 93 integra and the belt went out at 93K and the engine died and I tried to restart it and it caused more damage.

Optomos: That sound that I'm hearing might be the Power Steering pump? I went to my mechanic and he couldn't figure out what the sound was. I said well maybe it's my timing belt and water pump showing signs of failure and he said you never told me you didn't change it. And he said it might be that. Now I'm thinking he don't know what the hell he talking about.
I'm gonna take it to the stealership and let them diagnose it and maybe let them do the job.

You can usually find it out yourself by using a large screwdriver and placing it where you think the problem might be coming out of then place your ear on the screwdriver to find out where the whinning is coming from. Kind of like a stethascope. Sometimes by putting your ear to the screwdriver you might be able to hear the ocean.

Idler pulley is what I had to replace.

I don't know what it could be. I just installed my Comptech Icebox and I'm hearing this sound. Plus My check engine light is on... Mad problems after this comptech install....
CEL code would help.
