Unhappy weird popcorn noise? check engine flashing?

Well. my check engine light started blinking constanty so I went and got it scanned.
It came up with

a random misfire
Every cylinder misfiring
VTEC Failure
O2 Sensor

Then, as soon as i identified the problem my car started making a "popping" noise above 2.5 RPM from second through fourth. almost as if it is backfiring rapidly for lack of a better explanation

Now here's our ideas - all of my friends are mechanics so we've been brainstorming before I buy something unnecessary.

A) The O2 sensor needs to be replaced and is sending the wrong signals to the engine

B)The Vtec is throwing off the firing order

C)There must be a bad coil

I have enough money to try one of the solutions, but i can't afford any sort of trial and error, and ideas would greatly be appreciated. please help, I'd really like to get out and about again

no, that would be a separate issue

not really sure.
find the bad coil and go from there.

most likely single coil failure
freaks out the ecu and causes additional FALSE codes

buy 1 coil at parts store for 50 bucks
easy test is remove power lead to coil and helper observes tach for rpm drop
no drop = the bad coil

that bad noise is related--no spark= lots of unburnt fuel entering exhaust

Once you find the bad coil inspect its spark plug,,I would replace it on good practice,,
8 bucks of insurance against leaning over the engine some more~

NOTE!! MUST reset ECU after coil move to another spot for testing,
or after actual coil replacement
pull CLOCK fuse- on end of dash passenger side- for 1 minute and reinsert fully
that forces a master reset and relearn,,system finds coils working and runs correctly!

did you install the correct 8 dollar each NGK Iridium or ngk platinum?

anything beside ngk or denso,,the correct high dollar ones--will get fried by the TL's high energy `coil on plug` ignition--thats why we have special plugs!

if its got ac delco, bosch, or even some 2 buck `incorrect ngks`..there is your problem
