VSA and ! light

I have an '03 TL-S w/ 53K miles on it. Earlier today, my VSA and ! lights came on and stayed on. Pushing the VSA button did nothing.

Is this code for a particular situation? Any ideas on the fix or is this something I need to bring into the dealer?

theres a couple of things it could mean
take it to autozone type store and they will check the codes for you for free
report anything found back here

Has the transmission been feeling funny at all???, longer to engage in gear, or rough shift or slipping when hard on the throttle?
Smell the trans fluid dipstick for burned fluid

Is the car clean title- not salvage or rebuilt title?
register your car on acura- need VIN number- look in recall section to see if part of the extended trans warranty
http://owners.acura.com/registration...erstepone.aspx
you can also call 1-800-382-2238 x5, with VIN , and ask if the 2004 recall for oil jet kit install was completed, and if your covered on the 7year+9 month/ 109k miles special warranty
03s made late in the production year are not listed in the lawsuit- but get goodwill coverage in most cases

I brought the TL into an Acura dealership. Result - The steering sensor is bad. Their cost = $520 + tax). The part alone is listed at the dealership at$236. I found it on a website for $166. Question, has anyone tried to replace one these themselves?

P/N is 35000-S3N-A02 and it's located in the steering column right behind the steering wheel assembly.

Thoughts? I want the VSA light off (and my traction control feature on) - but paying dealership pricing is ridiculous.

shouldn't be that hard if its right behind the steering wheel. disconnect the battery and wait about 10min to let the air bad discharge and try to fix your own problem

I have a few questions for you as I currently have the same issue...Firstly were you able to fix the issue? Secondly, from an off state would the ' ! and VSA ' come on when you started the car? My issue currently is that the ' ! ' will come on as soon as I start the Engine and ' VSA ' will come on after about 1KM of driving. I have run the codes and have quite a few. I figure that most are coming from one issue I just don't know which one to look at 1st.

Codes:

0171-1 W/Sensor L/R
026-1 Pulser & Sensor - Lateral Accelerometer failure
045-1 R/F Apply Solenoid Failure
053-1 Pump Motor or Pump Motor Relay Stays on Failure
055-1 USA Relay Failure
083-1 PGM-FI Relation Failure
084-1 Steering Sensor Input error
094-1 Sub Throttle Sensor
097-1 Throttle Motor Failure

Now, my car is a Salvage and cannot be taken back to the Dealer for anything unless I pay. My ABS system is functioning correctly and engine RPM is fine.

arent most of those codes VSA related?

the "!" comes on when I disable my VSA or when the front tires lose traction.

when you get combo warning lights it can mean anything from trans problem to broken speed sensor lead
Have a name brand parts store pull the codes for you and report back here (free)
DO NOT clear the codes by disconnecting the battery neg or fuse 13 on passenger foot area or side of dash
You may need them still there to take to the dealer
Just get them and report back here-
between the members--- a good guess is the least you can expect~

for those intentionally activating the traction control - stop it unless you like buying parts

you mean de-activating the traction control? Only reason I posted anything about that is I accidentally bumped that "VSA" button while reaching for my cruise and noticed that light came on.

Oh yeah..that was after my 1500' burnout

Did you have any rough idling? I have the same isseu however my car idles rough, which suggests an EGR valve is malfunctioning...

Hello,
My TL-s just started doing the same signal thing. VSA ! and the check engine light came on at different times but they are all on now.
(02 TLS 117k miles 2nd tranny)
I used a OBD II scanner and got the PO325 for the knock sensor.
THe car runs fine, ATF fluid is good. I drove the car this weekend to LA and back (250 miles) with no problems.

Should I just change the knock sensor?

ANy input you can offer would be appreciated.

Sorry if i jacked this thread

Hey guys,
My VSA stays on after I hydroplaned in a rain storm. It has not gone off since. I will go to autozone also and get the codes and report back.
Thanks Abat

My VSA light comes on if I go over 115mph...the "!" also comes on with it. If I turn off the car and then turn it back on, the light turns off after I drive it about 1/4 mile. I'm wondering if this is related to the fact that the car feels like it may need an alignment. It gets kinda swervy when you gas it over 60mph. This also could mean that it needs an engine mount but I'm just wondering if it may be related...any suggestions?

Hey guys and 01tl4t,
My 2001 Acura CL lowered with 18 inch rims has had no problem for 2 years until a few months ago when the VSA ! lights came on. It was after I hydroplaned. It has remained on but I have no performance problem. I went to autozone and rand a fault code test... no codes showed up. I talked to an Acura dealer techi, he said try to reset the computer by removing the pos and neg, hold them together for 15 minutes and reconnect. WHA! Sounds freeky, like it might blow the computer.
Anyone heard of this? Should I try it? Will it damage my car?

Vsa!

For VSA! light to turn off, I just tried someones suggestion of pushing the parking brake on and push the vsa switch in and out. No go. I guess I'll try disconnecting the negative on the battery. Does anyone know if it will hurt the computer if I hold the neg and pos together?

holding the positive and negative together with the cables disconnected from the battery wont do a thing. Not sure why the "tech" told you to do this.

Now if you want to fry something hold them together when theyre still connected to the battery... more than likely a fuse will blow before something gets trashed though. (dont know why Im telling you this, lol)

I heard this trick in the real early auto computer days at a gm tech seminar. It will discharge any capacitors in various modules and erase some memories RIGHT NOW not in 30 seconds. It's been known to cure computer/driveability/anti theft weirdness on some domestic cars, I haven't heard as much about any benefits on our cars.

my VAS ! just came on today too. plus the CEL.
our roads are covered in ice. I was driving under 20kph and then they lit up and i lost my traction control.

1 km later i pulled over, turned off the car for a few mins, when i started her back up the VSA ! was off but the CEL is still on. i got home no problem. I'll have to check for codes.

I have not yet been able to get the car scanned. I have double-checked my wheel sensors ( all of them ) and they are working...My ABS has no issues at all. Any ideas? I really don't want to pay for a scan!

This winter my VSA has been doing that too. The lights come on sometimes during irregular road conditions like sometimes when the roads are icy, snow, wet covered and you can't turn it off.

Its supposed to come on-thats the system letting you know there is wheel slippage.

Now if it STAYS on, and you havent disabled it via the VSA button, then you may have a problem.

It stays on and I can't turn it off. Then later it resumes to normal again. I used to think that maybe it was on just on to tell you it's slippery road conditions. Because the first time it happened, I was on a snowy/icy road and it came on solid and wouldnt turn off, and I couldnt switch it off for that whole time. Then as I went back on a dry pavement road again it resumed back to normal.

I always hear the VSA hum sometimes when just driving or during cold starts.
