Vibrating noise - 01 TL
Vibrating noise - 01 TL
Hi All,
I have an 01 TL that is in Excellent Condition with 130,000k on it. The transmission was replaced at 60K (That issues that all Second Gen TL's had). I do regular oil changes (synthetic), fill her up with Premium gas and flush the tranny. I have noticed that when I cold start the car, I can hear a rumbling/vibrating noise. This only happens when in Park and/or Reverse during a cold start. I had taken it to my local Acura dealership and they said I shouldn't be worried since it only happens during cold starts. I don't like hearing anything period so I was hoping to figure out the source of the problem. I think it could be the engine mounts, but I have no idea.
Anybody having/had the same issue?

Welcome Ranuccma !!!
Yeah, does sound like the mounts should be inspected. When were they last replaced ?
Next thing to check for vibrating and rumbling is the exhaust system components. Maybe a loose cat shield or a rubber isolator hanger's hardened ?

was the car taken inside and a diagnostic fee charged? or did a tech or service writer stand next to car outside the shop and say its fine?
I agree with 3.2- who is a current real life mechanic-
the front and rear motor mounts are fluid filled with strange oil and vacuum boosted so failure causes several problems
Visual ck for drops on floor and from under car look at mounts for dirt stuck to oil leaking or just the oil leak itself
vac gauge test is fast way to know whats happening
front mount failure every 65k miles is not unheard of, the pass side follows after taking extra load

have you done the intake manifold removal and cleaning of egr system? needed every 75kmiles and not found in mait schedule
when you say flush the trans. are you doing gravity drain and refill- part or all of the atf fluid -using Honda dw-1 atf?

i have high performance mounts and have rattling throughout the cabin at idol i for one dont mind itand have learned to love it cause as soon as your above 1,000 rpm the sound diminishes. its really personal preference. I definitley get more positive and more direct power with stiffer mounts but with performance parts there is always some negatives. really depends what your trying to go for.
Hey Guys, thanks! I have replaced the front mount before around 70,000 k, maybe its time to check it again. The tech guy just couldn't hear it and the noise just started occurring after Acura replaced my front alarm sensor by the hood latch.
It's 120 bucks to do a diagnostic - I only go to Acura if I absolutely have to, so the technician said to record the noise and bring it back in (haven't had a chnace yet).
Thanks for all the tips and advice ill try everything mentioned above and let you guys know if i figure out the issue!
