Turning Slotted Rotors?

I am ready for front brakes and have been told that it is not
normally feasible to turn slotted rotors and that the pads will wear faster.
(I am thiinking about fitting legend calipers)

Is this true?

Thanks

It takes a special machine that professional machine shops have, but it can be done.
Normally you wont need to resurface slotted rotors- they are designed to last and when the slots are gone- the rotor is done.
I will trade whatever minor pad wear for the amazing cooling advantage of the slots over standard rotors. 20k miles for pads is good in my mind, they dont work as well once low so I replace before all the way to min spec.
Buying pads matched maker- to the rotors- helps, as they were designed to work together.
RacingBrake brand has them and so does Rotora

Anyone with a brake lathe and an open mind should be able to help you. I think some people don't think it's possible, because they,ve never tried it. I'd give the job to a "real" automotive machinist as opposed to the kid at Autozone,Murray's, Pep Boys, whatever. Someplace like a Napa store.

It's doable.

And FYI, 01tl4tl, the slots could outlast the life of the rotors depending on the design. The slots are NOT supposed to be used as an indicator of rotor life.

I am referring to my RacingBrake brand rotors- they are supposed to last 2 or 3 sets of pads with no resurfacing, then the slots will be worn down and thats the end of life signal.

01tl4tl,

I noticed you are using the Legend calipers & ET300 pads.

I have three questions:

1. What is the part no./yr./model for the calipers?
(I guess I will try to find some used ones and have them rebuilt if I can)
2. Are the ET300 pads ok for regular (non spirited) street use?
3. Do I need that type of rotor/pad combo for the rear brakes?

I'm hoping I can get the rotors/pads here from the forum black market

Thanks.

1995 Legend LS Coupe calipers, Buy Rebuilt units at kragen or other stores like that.
There are several different calipers in the Legend lineup- I know for sure these work and come with the bracket- we take the spring clips off the bracket (put legend bracket back in the box! do not use it) and use on the TL bracket.
Use TL caliper mounting brackets, rotors and pads.
For the back brakes: I run kragen rotors and ET300 pads, works fine.
I used to have Hawk HPS, and swapped all the pads out for the ET300s when RacingBrake introduced them last year.

The rebuilt units were 72.99 each plus refundable 30$ core charge. Same price as TL calipers~ Print out web page and ask store to price match- web orders take 2 weeks while the store takes 1-2 days. No one stocks them normally- I mean- its a 95 legend man.

Part numbers:
Raybestos ProGrade. FRC10627 and FRC10628 are the ones I used.
Other stores can use that # to get a cardone # or other brand

Those have the piston diameter size closest together- better for our use.
They go on backwards- the one with an L on it, goes on the passenger side, the R goes on driver side-makes the bleeder sit on top- you will see

Non spirited driving and ET300: these ARE the pads they made for street use-!!
70% normal street / 30% track day style driving- made the name ET300
they also have ET500 a 50/50 for very spirited- great for track days pad, than can also be driven on the street.

NO noise issues at all- wife loves how well the car stops now, and its a predictable progressive braking. Want to stop faster?- push the pedal a little more and you stop 20 feet before you thought you would. Thats handy on the freeway when traffic suddenly stops and you are going 80
See azine sponsor vendor MrHeelToe for them.
This is a noncompensated product evaluation useage opinion by this writer~

Do you have slotted rotors now- your OP was about resurfacing slotted rotors.
Is there an issue with yours- or just wondering while changing the pads?

I don't have the slotted rotors yet.

When I spoke w/ the parts guy @ Acura here in PDX he told me about the Legend calipers and cautioned me about turning slotted rotors - said it was hard to do.

Are the prices I saw for the rotors per pair?

yes-the price is per pair of front rotors and the pads are a set of 4 pads, 2 for each wheel
its roughly $325 for front pads and slotted front rotors with the shipping included.

Definetly worth the investment I made in them- the very first time the wife had a panic stop on the freeway at speed, and brought the car home unscathed- that was priceless!!
The last car- she was the last in line of 3 cars in a sudden freeway stop, and brought the maxima home 2 feet shorter
She has tried it several more times too- I praise the brakes!!!!

My tech at the acura dealer has RB rotors on his car!, we go play on the backroads sometimes. Never had anyone with equal brakes to safely follow you into a corner before.
Do not be concerned with needing to turn them in 15k miles- its not going to happen.
