Question Trunk won't open ... ideeas ??

I hit the trunk open button on the remote ... NADA . The button inside the driver's door ... same. And all of a sudden , had no problems before. I can hear an noise from the trunk lid as I'm pressing the button , but it's not followed by the " pop " of the trunk
I've been using the " off " button in the glove box lately ... Could that be what triggered it ?
I know that if I go to the dealer they will skin me alive . Any ideea ? Thanks alot

Pull the center console down in the back seat and you can likely get to the manual release lever.

Not sure how to fix your problem though.

Where is the manual release lever located ? Is it within arm's reach ?
Could it be a mechanical problem ? Since I hear that "electrical" kind-a noise when I press the button ?

First check to make sure the the button is in the 'on' position in the glove box. The center console Chauncey is referring to is the arm rest in the back seat. Just pull it down and open the door to the trunk.

The OFF button overrides the system- for valet use- truck security
turn it back on

Once you get it open via the safety release, clean the rubber seals and the body where they touch and then spray or wipe the rubber seals with some silicone spray. Also, lube the lock mechanism with some white lithium spray or teflon spray.
That'll probably take care of it.
The click you hear is the electrical part of the latch; either the latch is geting mechanically hung up or the rubber is sticking to the body.
Good Luck!!
Mike

As far as the glove box on/off , I already did that ( wish it was that simple ).
What I am not clear on is what do I reach for when opening the center console door to the trunk.
One other thing , since I am on the subject ... Do you guys know if we have a TRUE alarm system on our cars ? ( mine is a '03 TL-S ).
They broke in to my car few months back ( smashed window , pulled the pin ). Car did not make a sound . Kind'a stupid for a high end luxury sedan ...
Anyway any input on how to fix trunk much appreciated

when u reach thru the door into the trunk, just reach up and feel for a handle, and pull it. its best if u are doing it from the drivers side i think.. this is how my car is also, i kinda like it too since its good security if u have a sound system (or othe valuables) back there

I just did that . Reached inside and up and felt this " t " shaped rubber handle that has a cord going to the left ( of the car ) . Pulled on it but nothing happened . The cord just kind'a came towards me.
I really think I'm missing it somehow. Could U be more detailed ?
And about the alarm system. It's inexistent. For example if I just sit in my car and hit the lock button ( car secured )and I pull the pin as if somebody is braking in , nothing happens.

Sounds like you did it right.

Mine (02 TL-P) is a little rubber handle and I pull towards the passenger side of the car and you can hear the release mechanism engage. If your isnt doing that it sounds like it may be broken past the point where I can be of any help....sorry

From this point the problem sounds like the locking mechanism is jammed or broken. May be time to call in a professional.

give the handle a few good tugs- its purpose is when kids get locked in the truck- they pull the handle and the trunk opens- so act like a freaked out kid and yank that thing-

otherwise its off to the body shop- not the dealer- techs are not good at this but body shops can open anything

I think it's off to the body shop I pulled that release cord all towards me ... Like an arm's length came out. no pop , no nothing .
I know this body shop that replaced a window for me when I got my car broken into. They have nothing to do with Acura though. Do U think they can pull it of or go to the dealer ( I think the Body Shop doesn't have any Acura parts ).
How much should I expect to pay ?

hopefully the body shop- which has experience opening broken things every day, will reach in with a long something and pop it from inside via the latch release
I didnt mean to pull the cord out!! just pull like a kid

Did you try pulling up on the trunk when you heard the click once you pressed the remote?
Sometimes the rubber seals will stick to the body.

Yeah ... Thought about that. I did it , pulling on the trunk at the same time. Did not work . I think some spring must be broken in the mechanism . I know that the body shop will open it. Question is ... Will they fix it ?
When I bought the car I had a spoiler added to it. Maybe that made the trunk too heavy ?

You could also try having someone pull the child handle while you push up and down on the trunk; that might work the mechanism loose.
Last resort is a sawzall.

My 02 TL-S started to see this same problem. I press both the remote and the button inside the driver door and nothing happens. I do hear a faint click sound when the buttons are pressed but it doesn't disengage the trunk release. I even went as far as removing the trunk lock assembly to try and root cause the problem. No luck. The faint click sound tells me the electrical connection is there but something mechanical is not functional it seems. I'm now tempted to go buy a new switch online for $90. Seems pretty easy to install but before I take the plunge, wanted to make sure if others also has this problem and it's indeed the switch assembly malfunction before I buy this thing and found out it's a different problem. Any feedback would be appreciated.
