TRasmission and overheating
TRasmission and overheating
I recently had a problem where the engine got really hot. The tl wouldnt start I let it cool down for an hour and started right up I checked the trasmission fluid it smelled burned. I cleaned the fuel injectors, changed the trasmission fluid, changed the power steering. The trasmission feels the same but the temperature.....When Im in a light at full stop the temperatre rises more than half the way. But when I accelarate the engine in neutral or when I put drive and drive around the temperature lowers to its normal position. What shlud I get checked
transmission has nothing to do with engine overheating
did you check the coolant level? do your fans go on?
it could be a number of things like thermostat, fan switch etc.

Also check to see that nothing is blocking the airflow to the radiator. Seems simple but look what happens when a hot dog wrapper gets caught on the front of a NASCAR race car.
Anybody here use WaterWetter on their TLs?

I would change your coolant. check the coolant level when your car is cool first. It very well may be low, if it's not then your thermostat is probably busted. fan switch is a possibility. once you check your coolant level if that it okay then start your car and let it run until it's completely warmed up and pop the hood and see if the fan comes on, if it doesn't then it's probably the fan switch that's bad. this has nothing to do with your tranny.
