Transmission Q's
Transmission Q's
So just bought a 01 tl Monday and I have some questions. Sorry I'm a little new to the site also so bare me the criticism. I was just wondering is there anyway to tell if my car has the original transmission or if the transmission has been replaced. I asked the used car salesman who I bought it from and he said the transmission was the original one but you can't ever trust them. I'm extremely worried my transmission will F up and I will be out a lot of money. Also this site says the warrenty is only 100,000 miles and 7 years, but wikipedia says its 7.75 years and 109,000 miles, which is it? My cars sitting at 92,000 miles right now. Also do all 00-03 tl have bad transmissions or do some car actually have good ones? Cause everyone makes it sound as though all of them are going to fail.
call acura customer care(dont remember the #). their a transmission sticky thread, all your questions will be answered in that thread. and yes its 7.75 years and 109k miles
Thanks for the quick reply. I decided to register my car with the link given in the thread but when I enter my VIN in it says only Acura VINs can be managed on my Acura, why is this? I tried using "O"s and zeros but same thing.
Yea I just checked the VIN again and I wrote a 1 instead of a 9, I got it to work now. Thanks though. One question though I thought we could view the history of the vehicle on My Acura but there doesn't seem to be anything like that on the site. So the only way I can find out previous maintenance records is to call the 1 800 number?

Well the car is still running fine, I'm just worried that there will be problems in the future, paid cash for the car so I barely have any money to survive on until my next paycheck and I go to school full time. Just making sure I cover my bases before anything happens. I've been doing some extensive research on the site, cut a couple of classes today because I was reading through the 40 some pages of the transmission failure thread. I'll probably call the 800 number tomorrow to see if the transmission was ever replaced. Thanks everyone for replying, this site is so nice and helpful, unlike some other sites where they just bash you, Honda-tech. fsttyms1 your from Appleton? Happy to see that there are other ziners close by, I guess I could do as someone suggested and have a fellow ziner drive my car if I ever think I have tranny problems. One last question though, when the car shifts gear it isn't silky smooth, it's still smooth but just not silky smooth. Theres a little almost unoticable thump forward when ever it shifts gear. The engine doesn't rev higher between shifts or anything though. It might not be anything and I'm just being paranoid but just thought I ask. This is my first time driving a car with 200+hp car so it might just be the car is so powerful theres a little boost forward between shifts.
Xiong28, I would definitely call Acura Client Services in CA, about your car and not wait until something happens. My 2003 TL S transmission went out at 65K with really no warning. One day it started shifting rough, searching for the next gear and then it was completely dead. My car was not included in the warrantee extension but I was able to get Acura to pick up most of the cost of replacement (90%) by using Acura Client Services and getting a case manager assigned. I am not sure why they agreed to cover 90% but it may have been the low miles 65K but I have read a number of posts where Acura kicked in a lot of the costs even at 100K. As far as I know all 2000, 2001 and 2002 Tl's are covered by the warrantee extension (93 months/109K) its the 2003's where there is a cutoff by VIN #. There is also a recall on certain 2000-2004 CL & TL's for damage to the transmission which they either add an oil jet to the outside of the transmission or replace it if they find damage to certain rings/gears in the transmission. MyAcura.com has additional info on this recall and whether your vehicle is included in the recall. Good Luck.
