Transmission Problem need ACURAZINE help

Hey, I have a 2003 Acura TL with 83,000 miles, but my vin number is not cover in the recall warranty.

I live in NY and I went to 4 acura dealerships for my transmission and all 4 told me that honda motors are not going to cover the transmission. My auto insurance GEICO is not going to fix the transmission.

What should I do now??? Sell the car? Save money to get a new one?

Go on craigslist, or into the black market here on a-zine and look for a totaled tl.
Ask the owner if he will part with the transmission for a few hundred dollars.

And they arent willing to try to work with you at all? Have you tried calling acura client services? Id also recommend reading the trans thread.

In one of the acura dealerships, one of the service writers and I tried calling acura client service and they told us that there is no way of them covering it. There was no extended warranty purchased, I wasnt the first owner, the problem was corrected in 2004 and the vin number is out of range on the coverage.

I was going to read the trans threads but there so many of them.

I tried to work a deal with them and they said that they couldnt.

Do you think it is worth converting the car into a 6 Speed or just get another transmission?

If you have the time and the cash it is DEFINITELY worth it, if you don't then just go with a replacement tranny

Make some more calls on your own. Don't waste your time driving around. Call Acura yourself.

If you know how to drive a manual then it is worth it to do the 6 speed conversion because you won't go through so many trannys. If not and are willing to dish out the cash then it would be good to learn and have. If not then get a tranny from a salvage yard.

Check out this site, partshotlines.com, I did a quick search for your area and there were a few trannys for reasonable prices.

The extended waranty covers the car, not the owner. So it doesn't matter if you're not the first owner. You can be the 20th owner and it wouldn't make a difference.

The problem was not corrected in 2004. The general consensus on this forum is that Acura may have significantly improved the reliability with some design changes made in February of 2005.

The single thread to read is the "Tranny Failure Thread":

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-problems-fixes-117/tranny-failure-thread-566833/

The thread is massive so start at the end and work backwards. Pay attention to the comments posts by 01tl4tl.

In general, you'll want to take to the "Service Manager" at the dealerships. If that doesn't work out, call Acura's Customer Care group and see if they can help.

Getting goodwill coverage is always a gamble but many out-of-warranty TL's have received it.

Good luck.
