transmission or? not sure please help

I have an 02 Tl type s. 176k original trans. It when it 4 gear or really any gear, it won't go pass 5k rpm. It sounds like the cars trying to go but its just slow as hell. Even when I touch the gas just a little there's a hissing sound coming from the back like a air leak or something. The cars struggles just to get to 80. If anyone might know a solution that'd be great. I'm in my senior year of high school and I unfortunately don't have money to put out on a transmission and my parents aren't going to help me. I went broke after buying the car by myself lol.

Is the check engine light on ?
Have you checked the fluid levels? Like engine and transmission if so how are you checking it ? engine on or off.
The hissing could be vacuum leak, check all the hoses on the intake manifold.

Erick my buddy (mechanic) and I ran threw all the gears and checked the tranny fluid. It was way past the second mark. He asked me to check it when the cars off tomorrow too so I will. And I haven't checked any hoses.

try reading your owner manual for correct procedure on cking ATF level
It should read as BETWEEN the 2 dots- not at either- in the middle!
above or below the dots is bad news!!

free owner book download at Acura Owners Site | Exclusive Knowledge, Service, & Benefits

Note our fluid is ck'd with engine OFF in PARK

Ck front and rear motor mounts for vac leak- both are fluid filled and vac boosted,
front failure common

How old are the spark plugs? ever replaced?
ckd the engine air filter?

A clogged EGR system INSIDE the intake manifold will cause poor running
A clogged CAT in the exhaust will prevent easy rpm gain
Does it rev freely in Park? limiter will prevent above 5k in P or N
but just cking for full throttle and easy revs with no load of trans being in gear

Even with no CEL there may be codes, dealer will ck but why do you want to pay 150 dollars to diagnose- not repair- just diagnose your problem?
A muffler shop will look at the cat and mufflers= usually free,
a parts store will ck for codes- free! (except in Ca not allowed)

A local type trans shop- NOT AA*$0, will ck codes and test drive -often free
the big name corp stores have minimum sales needs every day- SO your car needs 5000 dollars of repairs!

Welcome Justinbird !!!
Have ya recently done any type of work or mods on the motor ?
If so recheck the vicinity where the work was done. Could be a loose vac hose or electrical connector as ErickUa5 previously mentioned. Does the problem occur with the motor cold or warm ?

Have the codes checked at most any auto parts store for free. Does the exhaust smell or appear puffy ? Maybe a clogged cat. Check the tranny's ATF after running the car up to operating temp and shifting through all the gears. Park the car on a level spot, turn motor off and pull tranny fluid's dipstick....wipe clean, fully insert and then pull it out again.... stick should be showing fluid level between the two dots as 01tl4tl stated before.
