i would like to know how difficult and what is involved to replace both transmission mounts. I suspect it may be the mounts as i hear noises from engine bay only while going in reverse and only when I step on the pedal.

 

Tranny mounts or engine mounts. Dont start replacing stuff with out knowing if thats whats causing it.
