You might be ok, I heard the 99 TL didnt really have a tranny issue my 99 has over 170k miles and tranny is still running like the day it left the dealership.

Are you only worrying because of the high mileage or has the transmission been acting up?

The class action terms were 109K miles and, I believe, 7 years 9 months, whichever occurs first.

With a 1999, you might be limited first by the time limit.

Do you know the date the car was originally purchased?

thanks for the prompt reply..
well MBP_TL my car acted crazy once on the freway ab. a mont ago, the rpm kept jumping fromm 2000 to 5000 back and forth i could not accelerate , the gear seemed to be stuck at 2 , and i simply could not figure out what was wrong.. so i just stopped and waited for 30 min before starting again and seemed to me the problem was gone..

but my car jerks a lot when changing gears and u can feel them easily, the engine check light comes on accasionally and then goes away after few days to come back again..

and BOB the original delivery date is 7/22/99 so does it mean i still can get something done??
please do let me know

thanks

Well the rpm jumping was probably your IAC valve. Next time your CEL comes on have it CHECKED. They arent dummy lights that dont mean any thing. Most auto parts stores read them for free. Next time its on get the code read and bring it back here. We can help you better that way.

Also when was the last time the trans fluid was changed? May want to look into doing a drain fill on it

99 4spd owners beware!

Hey guys, I'm new here. I have a 99 TL 4spd and it is completely out of whack. I know people have been saying that it isn't the 99 with the problems and that it's the TL's with the 5spd. At first I thought it was the trans. fluid but when I took it to get flushed they told me the fluid need not be replaced. I called the dealership and they told me that it was most def. tranny failure. 2nd gear is almost non-existant and the shifts are hard enough to give me whiplash. It feels like I am being rear-ended by a semi.

Anyways, my TL has 114K on it and they said they would fix it with a brand spankin' new tranny, new computer, and a 36K mi warranty for just the cost of labor. Not bad compared to some of the nightmares I've read on here.

It's not that the 4 speed transmission doesn't have reliability problems. It does. It just that the 5 speed has more problems.
