tranny pan gasket

Hey, quick question, I got the transmission filter but before I drop the tranny pan shouldnt there be a gasket or seal in between the pan and tranny? No auto parts stores carry them, do they even have a gasket or do they just apply some kind of seal like RTV or something?

Hi Noticed you are in Trinity, Just wanted to say Hi. I work here in Port Richey.

I didnt think we even had a tranny filter. I know alot of people just drain and fill. To do a full flush I believe you need 3 to 4 extra quarts. When you flush only 3 qt comes out at a time.

We dont have a tranny pan, OR a serviceable/replaceable trans filter. You cant replace the internal sock on our trans.

Yes, you can change the tranny filter, I got one from ADVANCE AUTO PARTS, they had to order it, but I have it.

Call Acura. The TL does not have a serviable tranny filter.

There is a screen inside the tranny that is NOT servicable. You would have to take the transmission out of the car.

Not to sound harsh but you might want to rethink your plan. If you are ordering parts from Advance, then that should be a MAJOR foot stomper that something is not right. If you don't want to take the advice of people on this board then have at it. I would suggest form-a-gasket for the Tranny pan and an egg in the radiator to seal any leaks that may crop up.

Crawl under your car for me and locate the tranny pan. When you do come back here and let me know how it went. There is a small external filter that is a canister type that can be replaced, but there is NO internal filter that can be replace via a tranny pan. Only way is to remove the trans from the car and crack it open.!

OK, then tell me what this is........................http://www.google.com/products?hl=en...&um=1&ie=UTF-8

Do you still want me to crawl underneath my car, possibly make some scrambled eggs for my radiator?

Come back with the attitude after you've installed it. Please take pictures so we can all learn.

We don't have a transmission pan. We only have a drain plug and a fill plug up top. The filter is internal and the transmission needs to be removed, and opened to change it.

Just curious what you came up with? Is the new filter in?

Read carefully. Yes, the transmission does have a filter. It does not, however, have a pan. All there is underneath is a drain bolt. You can replace the filter but you have to DISASSEMBLE THE TRANSMISSION TO DO IT!! Obviously the guy at Advance Auto failed to mention this to you. Don't believe me? Take it to a transmission shop and ask them to replace the filter. When you get the estimate and all of the color has drained out of your face from the shock of the amount, please come back here with some more attitude.

Yeah, we want an update on how this went. Any pics of you installing it or removing the "pan"?

The only internal filter is the NON-Serviceable internal filter. (to you that means you cant replace it without taking the trans OUT of the car and opening the trans up. You do that you might as well get a trans rebuild kit and rebuild it cause thats about what you will be doing to get to the filter) Oh and the gasket kit to do this is about 150.00

Oh and for those with a 00+ there is a small external filter that can be replaced
(not sure if the 99 has it as i havent seen it in any parts listing)

funny- that part on advance looks like something acura would use as a motor mount!
OP's car is a 99 based on the parts link. I know nothing of 99s and what may have been in their transmission. There were many changes with the car starting in 2000 we do know that .

For info on anything 00+ I go with fsttyms1 advice, since he has physically dismantled a gen2 TL transmission and rebuilt it himself.
Anyone else that can say that- I will listen to you too!

So whats ther update on the OP installing the internal filter?
And is there any reason the rest of us with 2000+ cars- should replace the external filter, or just wait for the warranty replacement trans day to arrive?

If I ever have to get a replacment tranny, I'll be changing that external filter every 20k. As for now I don't care if the original tranny dies. I just change the fluid every 20k so they see I don't neglect it.

Why? it wont make a difference.

And look at the pic. In the lower left corner it has a arrow with FR. If you stand on the drivers side and look down with a flashlight you will see it.

do a search for 3x3 and you will get detailed instructions, or consult the owner manual
15 minute warm up drive, then start 3x3- use Honda trans fluid only
