Tranny goes boom!
Tranny goes boom!
Ok, tranny didn't really go boom...got y'all attention.
My tranny went out on my couple weeks ago and I had a shop rebuilt it. I got the car back a couple days ago. When I'm in park and driving I've noticed a few things that my old tranny didn't do. So, I'm here asking for help and opinion from you guys. I want to do some research before I take the car back to the shop. Don't want them telling me "it's suppose to be like that"... I want to have something to fall back to. Anyways...
Problem #1: When I'm in park or in neutral I hear a whirling noise from the rebuilt transmission. The old one I do not hear anything at all. What would be the cause of that sound? I want that noise gone...it's annoying
Problem #2: When driving the car I noticed a small shutter shifting in to 2nd gear. When shifting into 3rd gear, it felt like I revved the car a little before it shifts in. RPM jumps up to 4k then goes back down to 3k. It happens when the tranny is warmed up. It's kind of hard to explain...I'll make a video later if you need an example. Would that be a simple fix? Can the gears be adjusted? Bad mounts?
Problem #3: When shifting from reverse to drive, there's a delay before it engages into the gear (3 or 4 seconds). Like another person said before on a different post. Don't want to gas it before it fully engage into drive. With the old tranny, there's like a 2 second delay.
Thanks in advance.

The whirling noise can be a terrible reman/Torque Converter...
The Shutter can mean several things but what Im really curios is in your RPM jump.. Your trans under NO circumstances should over-rev while shifting this can mean they probably fuck up something because the joys of automatic transmissions are that you cannot miss a shift ever.. your trans should always make a firm shift and never miss it otherwise something is wrong.
3 or 4 Second to shift into gear its terrible... Something is really wrong.
When I received my 1300 buck shoddy rebuild transmission I wasn't expecting much! but oh boy it drove like the first day I took my car out of the dealership back in 2001.. It felt good, no sounds, no hard shifts, all golden and +100K later it stills shifts the same.. Im still quite pleased with my rebuild and can only recommend the shop that did it: IN MEXICO!
To me it sounds like that rebuilt is terrible and in most cases they should do it again... Don't accept a No for an answer all your issues are from a badly rebuilt transmission. Heck I don't even want to know how much you paid for it because ill probably get mad. When you rebuild a transmission you should get OEM QUALITY nothing less or it doesn't worth the trouble and expense of rebuilding it in the first place because they really know how to charge for a rebuild right? I expect nothing less than a perfect transmission from a FULL PRICE rebuilt..

Yeah, apparently the shop did a poor job on the rebuild. Nothing that was stated should be happening with a freshly rebuilt tranny. Ya may wanna consider having the car's tranny professionally evaluated elsewhere and then take it back to the shop that did the work. Tell them that you're not satisfied and request the shop to make things right or return your money.
Thanks guys...its either going back to Acura to get an OEM tranny or a shop to get it rebuilt for half the cost...well not really half. Yeah, I have a warranty on that tranny with that shop. I just wanted to run by you guys and see what would cause that problem. I made a video on the RPM jump, but this time it over rev half RPM before shifting into 3rd. I will make a better video tomorrow and I'll have the whirling noise up in a few. I'm going to give them a call Monday and take it back to have them fix it.
