What year is your TL how many miles
what did it do before this
Did you do any repair work
How long until RPM went down
Did you look at the throttle cable assembly under the engine cover
It could be throttle position sensor or cold start valve or any number of things
Try auto parts store to pull codes and get back with the results
OR if newer car go direct to dealer
You have a serious issue
5000 anytime is alot cold- asking for trouble

Mine is a 2003 type-s, It has about close to 71,000 miles. I haven't done nothing to the car since I got it. The only after market part it has is a AEM air intake that came with it when i bought it. The only repair I have done to it was the brakes. It took about 15 to 20 minutes before it went down and a quarter tank of gas was wasted. I did look at the throttle cable , but I didn't see nothing wrong with it. This has happened to me 2 times already. I called the dealer and they said to leave the car for a couple of days so they could experience the problem , but I know they want $ for the stay of the car. Everything is mainly stock in this car

Dont let it do this again!

Take it to an independant shop, or if you are good with the guys at parts store- have them pull the codes. Codes are not a diagnosis- but a set of syptoms

It sounds seriuos enough to merit a few dollars at the shop, sorry
