Unhappy front end whirring noise

My 2002 TL- S with 100k miles just suddenly developed a front end whirring noise. The noise starts at about 30 and keeps going as I go faster. Not transmission or engine (still there in neutral). Had tires rotated with no affect. Kind of sounds like very enhanced road noise. Can also feel a very slight vibration on the pedals and floor. Noise does not change when turning and not related to braking. HELP ......please. Its "driving" me crazy!

I had the same situation on a different car. It was a front wheel bearing.

Just because it doesn't make th noise in neutral doesn't preclude the transaxle from being the culprit. Especially considering the history of these cars, it probably is. I just had the transaxle in my 03 TL-S replace because of the over 30 mph whirring sound.

It's under warranty. My car has 46k miles and is on its 3rd transmission already. The last transmission lasted 3k miles before needing replacement. If you have to pay out of pocket you might as well sell the car. It will be around $4000 to have the trans replaced

Ever find out what was the problem? I am experiencing the same on my 02 with similar miles. Changed the wheel bearing to no avail. The noise is still there. Mech says it sounds like its coming from the transfer case.

Any ideas?

The whirring was the transfer gears in the transaxle. The car was on its 4th trans when I owned it from 17k to 46k miles. I sold it and bought a 2003 Mercury Marauder. I'll never buy another Honda product again if I can help it.

not good news. It's driving me crazy trying to pinpoint the sound. Sounds like the bearing but its not as its been changed twice. I've been to my mech 3 times for this already.
He says the sounds coming from inside the transfer case and you can feel it in the gas pedal when driving.

I'm hoping the extended warranty will cover this. Fingers crossed.

was it only making the noise while your car was in motion? I had my driverside front wheel bearing replaced and the sound never went away. the sound I hear is more of a shrill whirring sound coming from the front end. I hear it more when I am coming to a stop or slowing down or driving slowly through a parking lot with cars lined up on my sides. The noise occurs when I am not braking also. The sound has been around for well over a year and in that time I have replaced one wheel bearing, transmission was just recently completed overhauled, changed front and side motor mounts, had all new belts put on and I still cannot figure out where the sound is coming from. The sound is in sync with the rotation and speed my wheels are traveling. Someone here said it could possibly be the rotor shield hitting the inside of the rim, but I had my brakes done also when it started making this noise way back and the noise was still there. Any ideas what this could be? my tie rods are tight, no known suspension leaks.

Front end whirring

It did only make the noise when moving and only above about 30. You may wnat to try the other bearing.

Come up and claim your prize whoever said it was the other bearing. Acura confirmed it.

A headache of a time (and money!!) to find out that the mech I was using was absolute SHIAT.
