Hi everyone. I love my new 2003 TL. I a great deal on a one owner trade at the original dealer. I like to use the auto-stick shifting and yesterday it stopped shifting into 1st gear. All of the other gears shift fine, and when I come to a stop the car goes into 1st. But if I try to shift down to 1st at a low speed it stays in 2nd. The only change(same day) was a new tire and a rotation because I hurt my front tire on a sharp curb pulling out of a parking lot. Any suggestions?

 

I've never been able to. As far as I know all 1-2/ 2-1 shifts are done by the ecu.

It explains the SS use and speed restictions on gears
the SS shifts into 1 as you approach a stop
Some years auto shift it into 2nd while in SS,,if you forget and go screaming thru a parking lot

Note that certain uses of SS at high rpm will put harsh wear on the trans clutches!!

You cant outshift the ECU for gas mileage,,and it will run all the way up to best rpm/torque and shift just before redline if you stand on the gas and stay there,,when desired
