TL only cranks no start
Hey boys, i hope one of you can help me. Recently my battery went dead on my 2001 3.2 TL, so i rushed over to Costco to pick up a new one got home and now the car only cranks and does not start! the dealer tells me i need to have it towed in to get the keys reprogramed! I find this crazy! I am sure there is another trick to this and one of my acurazine Bro's has a solution.

If your generation TL has immobilizers in the keys (and I am almost sure they do) the only trick is the dealer or a locksmith that might have the appropriate scan tool to reprogram it for you.
Immobilizer = a small chip that must be present in the car for it to start. This way...car thief comes in then pops the ignition...it still wont start as the immobilizer chip is not present too. Its a security device in your key that is mated with the cars ECU. It sounds like they think your car "forgot" which key was mated to it in the battery changeover somehow.

they shouldnt have to be reprogrammed because you replaced teh battery though. Have you tried using a different key yet?

He has a good suggestion...try another key and cross your fingers!
Edit...just saw your response....that not good. Sounds like you are going to have to have it towed now. The easy stuff is all gone now. If another key didnt work....and it turns over but no start....somebody qualified is gonna have to look at it to diagnose it for you.

I find it strange that that happened. Ive had my battery disconnected for over a week and it started right up.

do you notice the green immobilizer key on the dash blinking or flashing while trying to start it?

well I guess let us know of the update. I am interested in knowing what the real problem was. I know for a fact that the battery replacement should not have caused this.

Well in a way i hope it is just the battery that caused this and i dont have a major electrical problem.. like i told the dealer what if i was in the woods camping or hunting.. my battery goes dead i replace it and then im stranded! Just totally dosnt make sense! They say it happens ur keys need to be reprogrammed. I wonder how much there gonna hit me to do this.. plus the damn tow!

Well it shouldn't happen just because of a battery. try disconnecting your battery again for 15 min and reconnecting it. See if it changes anything. If not it sounds like for some reason your immobilizer got deprogrammed. It cost me 45 bucks to have the keys retrained to the ecu at the Honda dealer
