Ticking Noise

I have 2 wierd noises coming from my car that are not normal. the 1st is a loud errrrrrrrrrrnt(I know bad interpretation but best i could describe it) about 20 sec or so after starting car and does it 2 times then goes away. Next is a high pitch ticking/ whining noise that only happens when car is moving sounds like possibly from right side. Any ideas wut theses are?

I think mine has the same issue.....sounds like its coming from underneath the car right underneath the rear door somewhere. i cant figure out or pinpoint where its coming from..but it sounds like a bomb or something...its not a sharp ticking sound...its more of a "dull" sound...if that makes sense..any help would be great.thanks... 99 TL

The two "errrrrrnt" noises (I've always heard them described as buzzing noises) are normal and are caused by the ABS system initializing...

You should get one of them at about 5mph, and another about 15mph I recall... It used to bother me, but after discovering that it was normal, I don't pay too much mind to it anymore...

As far as the whining noises, I cannot help you there... Good luck!

First we need to know if the two whirring, buzzing sounds occur when you are moving, or when the car is sitting still. ABS and VSA do not self test unless you are rolling, so if you are still sitting still, have it checked.

If you ARE rolling, this is normal since you have VSA. On VSA cars both systems test, meaning you'll experience two of the whirring sounds. On ABS/TCS TL-Ps it only happens one time.

If the noise happens from a wheel.. is it a whine, or is it a screech? If it's a screech it's probably just a brake pad wear indicator - you need new pads. If it's a whine, you might want to look into wheel bearings as mentioned.

Turns out that the owner before me had put in the wrong air filter in so the car wasnt getting the air right. The noise was caused by that.

Yes it can be gotten rid of. You will need to replace the part. Its the big black box located on the drivers side near the rear tire. (#5)

If you hear the sound from under the hood area its the purge control selonoid

the purge control selonoid can echo underneath the car and can be heard inderneath the rear doors on occasion. open your hood with the engine started and listen up towards the top right u will hear some ticking, then go by the rear door ur hearing it from and if it is the same sound then it is just the purge control selonoid echoing. mine does it and dealer said its normal.
